Big Bench = Bad Shoulders

I just crapped a Swiss Ball.

DB
That’s a fair point. I currently press with 40kg DBs for my 3RM on the flat bench (though obviously I don’t use the bench much) and do the same on the Swiss Ball.

I know I’m not into the 110lb press catagory, but the fact that I can press the same on either proves a pretty good point. Use that as a base and let the bigger guys who put more emphasis on the movement take the same ratio and run with it.

As for pictures, since you were so polite about it, stick with me, I’ll post some soon.
I call BS on that. Not at 154lbs are you db pressing 90lb. db’s for reps. And you are DEFINATELY not using the 90’s on a ball.

You say macho bodybuilder like it’s a bad thing…

Who really cares how much you bench? For all the macho bodybuilders out there that think that pressing a lot of weight from a flat bench is the be-all and end-all of manhood, think again.

Paul Chek states that “because the bench press is performed on a flat weight lifting bench, normal movement of the shoulder blades (scapulae) is disrupted. This demands that more movement must occur in the shoulder joint itself”

And just how much functional carryover will it have to your real-life anyhow? Just how much pectoralis involment is there in typing on a keyboard or pushing a pencil?

And if you’re one of the knuckleheads on this site that’d rather trade pain free shoulders for a nice set of pecs, try pressing whilst lying on a swiss-ball. (see attached image) Your shoulders will thank you for it.
I plan to be a Mucho bodybuilder.

Swiss Ball training is still relatively new. Give 10 years and some solid advice, you will.

Anybody else catch this?

The swiss ball is relatively new?

The swiss ball has been around for at least 20 years numbnutts!

I learned about their actual use as a physical therapy aid(not fitness gimmick) 15 years ago, at a spinal cord injury rehab center.

If you are so enlightened, how could you not know this?

Why don’t you enlighten us a bit more with something you actualy know and have observed first hand, instead of regurgitating info you bought from Check?
There probably wouldn’t be much to talk about, Huh?

Here’s a serious question for you-

Why is it much easier to stabilize on a ball when you talk, hum, or sing a song?

You’re going to need a tape measure in addition to your ruler to get the circumference of your excrement. If it’s not length you’re going for, you need to calculate the total volume of the sphere for complete accuracy.

And even then, the question remains: Is it well-formed, fluffy, easy to pass, light brown and earthy-smelling?

Only if “earth” smells like turds and cornchips.

The real question is will you lie down on it to do DB presses? If you don’t you will probably be all non-functional and weak.

His first ever TSB. I am so proud of him.
PGJ wrote:
That’s the whole point, dude. Saying this exercise is “functional” implies that another exercise is not functional. Like doing BP on a bench will somehow prevent me from doing normal activities. I said there are many people who do still believe that big muscles are inflexible and that bodybuilders can’t even touch their toes and all that stupidity. “Functional” trainers have capitalized on this ignorance by pushing their silly balancing act workout routines promising more functional muscles. Please explain to me how Mario P. (a guy who does 315lb standing shoulder presses) is less functional than the skinny trainer on a swiss ball.
As I’ve said in a couple of other posts in this thread, I think EVERYTHING is functional, it’s just that some things are more functional than others. So if everything is functional, I’m obviously not implying that something isn’t functional.

Also, I never said that Mario wasn’t “functional”. He probably doesn’t use a Swiss Ball, and no one ever said that it was necessary.

Did you even bother to read the first 9 pages of this thread?

God help us all. If that’s the type of thing that gets you off, I’m not going to suggest differently.

Did it come attached to 3 reams of A4 paper?

Yea, and I’m betting he still doesn’t know what it stands for or where it came from (I can hear him frantically clicking the search button though ;).

At least he knows where to use it.

How long do you think they’ve been using barbells and benches? Check out www.dictionary.com before you start insulting me.

Something along the lines of Tube Steak Boogie. It’s an ‘in group’ thing.

Thanks Helga. Nothing quite like posting second then coming in at the end and missing the bulk of the debate is there?

I think this “in group thing” is all in your head.

You make it up to feel better about yourself in some way.

I add people to my “friends list” who have consistantly posted level headed posts that I tend to agree with.

That doesn’t make me a yes-man with regards to everything they post.

I probably have some people on my list who get sick of me posting all the time and roll their eyes whenever they see me post.

Shit, I get sick of it sometimes.
