Ooh, Myrtle Beach - I’ve been there! It’s a little tacky but there’s fun stuff to do. Be careful, though, because the crime rate is quite high. I didn’t have any trouble but a friend had a cooler of beers and drinks stolen from the back of his pick-up.
Make sure you ride the Swamp Fox!
I’ve never been to Myrtle Beach, but SH says it’s the Jersey Shore of the South. Which makes me want to go even more. Quiet, empty beaches that are miles from anything bore me. I like to people watch and check out tacky tourist traps when I’m on vacation.
Ocean City was similar to Myrtle beach accept a little smaller.
I won’t be going to talk to a recruiter until I’ve done some more research.
I’ve been in that position before of not knowing the questions to ask and all that got me was sitting underneath submarines scraping barnacles.
But I’m older and wiser now
The Husband already learned today that if you’ve had prior service you can’t come into the reserves and use there tuition assistance unless you’ve served so much time on active duty…I thought it was a good idea!
Especially since my GI bill is going to run out next January.
If I got sent to corps school it would give me a little redemption from all those years ago.
It would also allow me to get a taste of what going to school for medical stuff would be like and to work part time each month to make sure that’s what I want to do. I would gain work skills and get paid $300 for the weekend.
you also travel for two weeks out of the year either in the states or around the world!! Something I never got to do.
There’s also opportunities to volunteer for deployments or extra assignments OR go full time support and recieve the same pay/benefits as active duty!
Lol @ Greg’s 'Merica pic! HAHA! I spent my July 4th with a friend who hails from the Redneck Riviera and he is basically that pic in human form. Which is clearly the reason I spent July 4th with him!
MiMsy!! Love all your vacations - sounds like you’re having a wonderful summer!
Of course you’d be thinking about changing up your career goals and to start studying again! lol! Whatever you want, you go it

I guess I’m going through a pre mid-life crisis of sorts?
I looked up some cool websites and if I really wanted to volunteer within the community, I could.
But it’s more than that to me…
even when I was joining the Navy way back when, I often imagined what it would be like to go through Army boot camp.
~Doing and excelling at things I think are out of my reach…
But why the military?? There are good benefits and I wouldn’t have to serve full-time to get them.
Plus they would pay for me to go back to school while I’m serving my part-time requirements. hmmm
Army boot camp would be easy for you. Just need to keep reminding yourself that they just are trying to screw with your head and make you lose it.

ok, I think I got it. Join the Navy reserves and get sent to Hospital Corpsman school(which is what I originally wanted to do way back when)
And get an NEC as a physical therapy Tech…while getting sent to school to get my degree for it.
yep, full A school is 96 calender days…if I did do this(and now it’s becoming a bigger ‘IF’)
it would be next spring so I could get home in time for Summer.
I think I am romanticizing this in my head and making it sound more cushy than it is.
I would essentially be re-joining the military(duh) and at school you still have to march everywhere, eat at certain times, have room inspections, stand watch, clean all the time, blah blah blah. The cool thing is, is that I would come back in as an E3(since I have an Associates) or maybe keep my E4…at school that would probably mean I’d be in charge and shit.
I just want the school.
Gym time today…
Just doing my own thing for now as I try to get back in the swing of things. Summer is so busy!
–walking,planks, bird dogs–
DLs!!
Front squats
see saw press
low row
squat press machine
1 arm rows
alt db hammer curls
db curls
glute stuff
–more planks, more walking–
i love having options. i’m the kinda person who likes to have a list of about 5 things i’d kinda like to do and play around with the order and stuff… so that if something doesn’t work out i can simply move to the next thing on the list without getting too demoralized about it all. it used to work for me, but has been falling apart a bit lately :-/
milking cows is hard work. too early in the morning for me.
with respect to the school idea…
i’m not sure how things work at different universities so you might want to check their policies in particular…
but i think it is fairly standard practice for full time employees to have up to one course per semester available to them for free - and workplace accommodations on attendance etc. there are a variety of full time work options… i’ve known people to basically get degrees paid for that way (though it takes a while admittedly). it is somewhere on my list not sure if that helps at all.
Mim: Glad you had a nice vacation. Good luck with all of your choices. Is it impossible for you to go to school without rejoining the military? There are student loans. Debt is not fun. But student loans often have pretty favorable terms–not like credit card debt.
re-joining the military is not my only chance of going back to school. I have loans already though, blech.
I got greedy with them at first and took more than what was needed…oops.
I don’t think I really want to join up again…I think I just miss being part of something that gets shit done. TBH, I don’t really know wth I’m thinking.

Sounds good to me!
MIM,
If you go Navy Reserve Corpsman the only NEC you will get is 8404 Combat Corpsman. Also Navy reserve will not pay for a Reservist to go to school full time or even part time.
Best way to get schooling paid for is Guard, and Air Guard/AF Reserve is generally best. Be careful…docs, MAs, Intell, and CBs are the most mobilized by far.
Greg- yep, it will be 10 years Jan 2012. No more GI BILL…
'course I can use the hubby’s if I wanted, but he wants to save it for our son, which I think is a great idea. If he wants to go to college that is. Who knows, maybe he’ll join the military too!
Cal- I see what you did there :*
Jack, wow. Hi!
Combat Corpsman huh? Pass.
I’m perfectly ok being the one that stays home with the kids while the hubby plays military. A part of me would like to have experienced that sense of adventure. Traveling was a big reason I joined the Navy to begin with. My husband has been all over the world and back. I’ve been up and down the east coast.
As far as school goes, I don’t really want to go back since I don’t know what it is I want.
Maybe I’m already doing what I’m supposed to be doing. Accept being a stay at home mom doesn’t bring in income and that would be helpful/beneficial to our family.
I have some time to figure it out. It’s just been weighing on my mind.
julia will be in Kindergarten next year! Much easier to go back to school/ease into a career.
I do have a degree in Sports Management. I’ve thought about being involved with a recreation department. Brainstorming ideas and overseeing programs and stuff. being active, working with my hands, helping to give back…those are all good job characteristics.
went out and did Sprints… (5x) Sprint, walk back, catch breath, go again.
I don’t know the distance exactly. But it took 12-15seconds to get across.
That will be the last time I do that on the grassy field. Knees are already aching and I made a point to warm up really well and I stretched when I got home.
