Better Than the Best

Scouts hear rumors about a talented player and then they go check it out and see if its legit.

not one single person in here has argued against this… what has been said, over and over, is that a random person right now ISNT doing it. Will it happen some day? Probably… is it happening right now by some streetballer in harlem? hell no
Perhaps not in Harlem, but what about somewhere else. You can not say with 100% certainty this is the case.
Yes, I can. Basketball [or any sport for that matter] is ultimately about winning. If someone were to possess that kind of talent they would be seen and given an oppertunity on the spot. I dropped out of high school at 15, and from playing in various leagues and open gyms I was seen and given several JUCO and small school oppertunities, and I was no Jordan.

Anyone that truely believes that there is somerandom out there right now who isbetter than the greatest basketball player of all times is either incredibly naive or a fucking idiot.
And, I can say that anyone who truly believes that this could not ever happen is incredibly naive or fucking idiot.

As far as I’m aware we’re not just talking ball here.

To find players that can fill a teams needs and help them win. That’s why they have college, and combines, and the d-league, and Euro leagues, and the draft. Not really sure what you’re trying to insenuate with that?

LWH - sorry for moving away from your thread but some of this stuff is just BS.

2 points and I’m out.

Most of you are fairly young and live in an age where you think everything is Youtube and media ready and so you use that as a point of reference for reality. Not everyone that is big and strong has a desire to lift competitively. Some people actually just like to lift and its recreational.

That said, just because someone in a competitition is listed as the best doesn’t mean there isn’t someone out there better. I incline 315 8-12 reps and honestly- it doesnt hit my pecs because I’m shoulder dominant in all my pressing excercises. Its not difficult for me to believe that a man bigger than me can move a couple more hundy.

As for the PRO sports references - most of those comments are just crazy. I grew up in Chicago and watched MJ play every chance I got. He’s not doing anything more phenominal than any other NBA player today. He was just ahead of his time. Have any of you seen the AND 1 mixtapes - those dudes are sick - and there are sicker ones in the street.

Talent alone doesn’t get you to the pro level. Pro players develop under skilled systems and coaches. Flaws are worked out. They understand playbooks and team concepts. They get vouched for. - Truely, is this any different than a corporate job? I know we all want to believe that if we work hard and are the brightest than you will get rewarded but who you know plays a very imporatant part.
This is easily one of the dumbest things ever written.
Hey! You are just ASSUMING this is one of the dumbest things ever written. Before the Internet people wrote things down on paper. It’s possible there could be people out there who wrote shit loads of dumber stuff than this but never had it published.

In all seriousness, his analysis of Jordan and people who play streeball is ridiculous.
That’s pretty funny Raj.

Exactly my point. If pro teams know that there may be a diamond in the rough out there they are turning over every rock. However we are arguing on here that we know better than owners and GM’s of pro teams?

what are you talking about? Are your reading comprehension skills messed up or something? i will emphasis for you:

NO ONE ever said that someone better than the GOAT will come along eventually… they’re saying that it ISNT HAPPENING RIGHT NOW

there isnt a streetballer out in harlem right now who is better than MJ.

Good God. Are you really this dense, or you just trollin’? Will there somebody be someone considered better than Jordan [or Bryant, Or Bird, etc…]? Probably. Is there some random out there right now who is anywhere even close to their level? NOT A FUCKING CHANCE IN HELL.

Exactly, and that point is no one, unless omnipotent, can not be 100% certain these people do not exist.

Okay I agree, however you need to seperate this argument a bit more.

NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL(I guess NHL for the white people up north) are at a different level of professional entertainment and $, then say BB, PL or track for that matter.

SO, there are not going to be scouts going to every gym in the country looking for the next elite level for these types of sports. Basing this back on what started this argument in the first place.

LOL.

How many of you think that if LHW was white Prof X would be calling bullshit? ME!

What’s funny is ALL the people arguing for LHW making this lift is that plenty of guys make claimed lifts and these SAME PEOPLE are the ones calling bullshit for shit like 275x8 bench for a small guy.

Oh the irony.

Personally I think you have to beat the best to be the best. This goes for street fighters vs. MMA guys, and1 guys vs. NBA, or anything else for that matter.

I can appreciate this post. Now when someone claims to be the best they should have to prove it.

I could dunk from almost the free throw line in highschool. Hope nobody needs proof cuz I don’t have it. There was no Youtube in the early 90’s.

That’s a completely different story. You didn’t say you could dunk further away from the basket than anyone else has before.
