hi guys lets see whats the best way to train a power athlete what system and what gives the most bang for your buck…training economy…the athlete needs to climb run fast and pulling power so any ideas…give it to me guys
What is the sport/activity?
There is absolutely no single answer or best exercise to train power. Each athlete is different with a different training situation surrounding them. Is the athlete an OLer, then obviously OL would be the best choice. Is he a PLer, then WSB dynamic efforts lifts would be a wise choice. Is he a thrower, sprinter, football, etc., then maybe a combination of DE and OL. Yet it goes further than that. Does the athlete have access to a platform, bumper plates, most importantly proper instruction, if so then OL are an excellent choice, if not I would avoid them. Most gyms have a squat rack and at least a bench to do DE box squats. Even then an Xvest with plyometrics (box jumps, depth jumps, bounds) are a productive option. Med ball throws can increase power in the upper body. Hell even kettlebellls done explosively. Remember, force=massxacceleration, so as long as you try to accelerate a decent weight then you’re training power. There are many training tools for each individual and each situation, but no one tool is right for all situations.
Don’t train just for power. Train for Maximal strength, speed-strength&reactive strength(can pretty much be trained as one) and hypertrophy. You should find their weakest link(speed, strength or muscle mass?) and train that. Also, I personally like CT’s Pendulum for Athletes.
