Best Punk and Post-Punk Bands?

Yeah. When I was in high school, Pennywise was big among the tweakers. HFL too.

They are not overrated they are just repetitive.
If you put your shit on random, a pennywise every now and then is a great thing to have

Pennywise is big among the bros too.

I agree with all who say that nothing is punk now.

To me, Rancid, Pennywise, Offspring, NOFX, current Agnostic Front, or any other watered-down pop drivel is not punk!

Agnostic front was awesome from 1983 to 1988. Then came One Voice, marking the beginning of the end. Roger started singing as if he was constipated or taking a shit. The band adopted that crappy “groove-rap-metal-crossover” that characterizes shitty identity-confused DMS bands like Skarhead, Madball, 25 ta Life and so on; all a bunch of confused wiggers playing rap-metal.

The AF albums Live at CBGB’s, Cause for Alarm, Victim in Pain, and United Blood were fucking awesome! Too bad they turned into a shit band!

Other hardcore punk bands I used to listen to were Discharge, Exploited, UK Subs, early Suicidal Tendencies (before they crossed over into metal; their metal stuff is awesome too but we are talking about punk here), Black Flag, Circle Jerks, and early Bad Religion.

After punk, I got into death, grind, and black metal, all metal genres that borrowed punk elements. A lot of hardcore punk bands took on a metallic sound too, like Exploited did on their Massacre album. A lot of metal bands have covered punk songs too.

Here are my favorite metal bands:
Morbid Angel
Slayer
Napalm Death
Entombed
Unleashed
Sodom
Destroyer 666
Venom
Bathory
Bolt Thrower
Benediction
Death

Too bad no one these days comes even fucking close to the bands I speak of here.

^^ Absolute tard

Punk shouldn’t even be considered a musical genre. It should just be called SHIT.

IMO - punk is nothing but bad poetry set to even worse music.

And whoever said Greenday was punk should be shot in the head. Greenday is WORSE than punk.

At least punk had the balls to be proud of what it was. Greenday sold out after their first big album, if you could even consider a bunch of american spoiled brat pussies punk.

Wow way to be narrow minded dude. i would never call any genre of music shit, just cuz i know id find some stuff that I like. Maybe it’s not the most creative music but it’s catchy and the attitude of punk music is fucking awesome and I listen to it just about everytime i workout cuz it’s fucking inspiring.

The thing that pisses me off about punk, is everybody vying to be more ‘punk’ than the last. Then every asshole scurrying to attach themselves to the most ‘punk’ thing they can. Then again, that’s pretty much the essence of what pisses me off about all music now.

The race to be original and true, has ended up with rip offs (so many fucking rip offs, I’m looking at you hip hop) and people trying so hard to be unique… they all end up looking and sounding like eachother. It’s a complete joke. Nobody believes what is cool until somebody tells them it is, bunch of sheeple in this world.

Then you have the opposite end of the spectrum who think whatever no name shit is novel simply because its unheard of. Just trying to throw their hat in the ring for having ‘known whats cool before it was cool’. I hate the whole lot of it.

For an original soul to rise in this day and age, it would take a bloody miracle. Luckily, I still believe in miracles. I’ll never give up on music.

hmm i didnt read through everything but here are some bands i have in my playlist

Showcase Showdown
Toxic Narcotic
The Trouble
Molly Maguires
Wrong Side Of The Tracks
Larkin Brigade
Hudson Falcons
Sprained Ankles
30 Seconds Over Tokyo
The Ducky Boys

I only really mentioned boston punk bands because everyone else has been mentioned already

As far as DKM go, They used to be one of the best bands out of boston, When i was younger i remember seeing them in gyms, churches, wherever other local shows where played. In my eyes they are no longer the DKM since the most of the original members are gone.

Well considering [actual] punk has some of the most intelligent and creative lyrics ever written, I have a feeling you don’t know what you’re talking about, my good man.

I have a feeling you are wrong.

But hey - we’re all entitled to an opinion, right?

But you’re discounting the fun in the piss-take. All art is based on the piss-take. And girls.

And originality is like the idea of heroes–it’s legend. Music can talk about originality all it wants, and it does, but it will never truly be original, because it can’t.

Doesn’t mean it’s not worth it.

No. You don’t get opinions. I’m taking them all for myself and you can’t have them.

Indeed we are, but its poor showing if yours are uninformed

I love a good punk arguement. England or America. Who was first?
At what point do you sell out? When you sign to a label? When you get paid for a show?
Do you need tatt’s and blue hair to be a true punk? How about a nice addiction to huffing spray paint fumes?
How big is your vinyl collection?

This just could go on and on.

Punk bands at the moment that are great;

Against me!
Rise Against
The Bronx

all ftw

Holy Crap - youtube has EVERYTHING

Vice Squad. A lot of good songs, but the link is to their best, methinks.

For the past few decades what is “punk” is more of a joke

Crass are also good.

Does anyone have a site or list which lists all the punk bands and all their song titles for the past?

I want ot try and find a song/band that did a great song way back but can’t find it. The only lyric I can remember suggests the song is called “the money game”

but try typing that in google and see how many false leads you get

Huffing paint is optional; amphetamine sulphate is necessity.

Are you the fucking arbiter on “informed”? Spit out your pedigree and let’s see just how fucking “informed” you really are.

You have no fucking clue about how “informed” I am, or how fucking stupid you are for making such an assumption.

Agreed.
