The thing that pisses me off about punk, is everybody vying to be more ‘punk’ than the last. Then every asshole scurrying to attach themselves to the most ‘punk’ thing they can. Then again, that’s pretty much the essence of what pisses me off about all music now.
The race to be original and true, has ended up with rip offs (so many fucking rip offs, I’m looking at you hip hop) and people trying so hard to be unique… they all end up looking and sounding like eachother. It’s a complete joke. Nobody believes what is cool until somebody tells them it is, bunch of sheeple in this world.
Then you have the opposite end of the spectrum who think whatever no name shit is novel simply because its unheard of. Just trying to throw their hat in the ring for having ‘known whats cool before it was cool’. I hate the whole lot of it.
For an original soul to rise in this day and age, it would take a bloody miracle. Luckily, I still believe in miracles. I’ll never give up on music.
But you’re discounting the fun in the piss-take. All art is based on the piss-take. And girls.
And originality is like the idea of heroes–it’s legend. Music can talk about originality all it wants, and it does, but it will never truly be original, because it can’t.
Doesn’t mean it’s not worth it.[/quote]
I understand exactly where you are coming from. Nobody wants every A-hole taking themselves so damn seriously. The piss take is good. Music can be fun as hell, and I appreciate when it means nothing sometimes, but only sometimes. As far as getting into the game to get pussy, well… it’s been done since it all started hasn’t it?..Sometimes, by accident, those that are motivated by such things have turned into pretty decent musicians. There’s just no telling.
Originality…it is a hoax in a way, because in the evolution of music, everybody has borrowed from just about everybody. I do believe however, you can put your own heart into something enough and inevitably it will separate you from the impostors.
A trend I’ve noticed, is that people who weren’t raised listening to the music of the past are getting into it and making truly unique stuff. So does it help to be learned and versed in musics past and present to aid you in creativity? Maybe perhaps it can be more of a hindrance.
