What is the best powerlifting association because I went to nasa (Natural Athlete Strength Association) and stomped two state records and an American record and was close to two world records. There’s got to be better out there. I don’t think i’m doing that good.
Your lifts are pretty good, particularly your bench. 100% raw records are 330 bench and 420 deadlift. The most competitive organization is USAPL but they use gear (single ply) and don’t do the curl.
He’s alright right about raw comps. There just isn’t as much competition as in equipped feds. Pick your poison. There’s competition everywhere, just not as much on the RAW scene.
That’s an easy question to answer. The best federation is the one that supports lifters and gyms in your area by putting together year round well run competitions with consistant standards in judging, divisions, and record keeping. Powerlifting is a grassroots effort so support the feds that support you as a lifter not just because others with big names lift there. If you need “competition” open up an issue of powerlifting usa and compare your numbers to everyone else in the world that month.
Any fed that puts on fun meets with good equipment is good in my book.
As for whether your NASA records are big lifts in the grand scheme of things, it’s a little tricky. NASA puts on great meets in some parts of the country, but it is not a huge fed with lots of elite lifters. For that, you would have to look to the USAPL, APF and possibly WABDL and APA. Other than those feds, most federations are primarily regional- i.e. USPF in CA and TX; SPF in TN, GA, and AL; IPA in OH, NJ, WV etc. On the other hand, all of those feds primarily feature equipped lifting. Raw records, if tracked, are coming from a handful of lifters.
Another point to consider is that not too many lifters in the US are your size. If you can keep getting stronger as 132 or a 148, you can put up a lot of records.
Your bench would be excellent in any fed that runs unequipped lifting and your deadlift is solid. Off course there’s no curls in powerlifting just boring old squat
Further to what peeps have said most (all that I’ve seen) unequipped divisons are no way near as competetive as their equipped counter parts. You’ll certanly find good lifters but no strength in depth.
NASA is not a bad fed. They do a lot to get people involved and they DO have a RAW division, some feds do not. heck, set the records. what would it hurt to be strongest guy in your fed. if you kick everyones butt in that fed move on or go to the equipped part of that fed.
btw which meet did you attend.(sorry my question mark is busted) I have not been to a meet since July and need to get to one!

weight=132pounds
Bench=315
deadlift=350
strictcurl=130[/quote]
How long ago was the meet?
According to their state website, the powersports records at 132 are
Novice
Curl Bench Dead Total
A. Paddock 121.2 A. Paddock 275.5 A. Paddock 314.6 A. Paddock 710.9
Open
J. Crawford 132 J. Crawford 220 J. Crawford 377 J. Crawford 713.19
High School
J. Crawford 129 J. Crawford 220 J. Crawford 364 J. Crawford 699.96
Sometimes it does take a while for them to update their websites. In NASA’s 2 KS meets in November, they didn’t list any 132 in Powersports competitors.
I lift at 148 & 165. State leve competition is usually spotty in the lighter classes. You often hit any real competition until nationals. The two deepest feds on a national level are USAPL and APF. NASA and UPA are very strong in certain regions.
Go to the UPA meet in Dubuque in January. There will be some good lifters, but I don’t know if there will be any 132s. I’m judging and going to try and get released for a flight so I can bench.
