Best Carb for Pre/Peri/Post WO Shake

I am wondering which is the best choice of carb for the shakes in waylander carb expriment on t cell he uses wms wondered if there were any better choices as finibars are not easy to get hold of over here.
Anyway choices of carb are
wms
vitargo
palatinose
maltodextrin
oats
fructose
dextrose
activated barley

would appreciate any help on this thanks!

Just can’t get my head round all the options!

WMS is a great option. People put it down a lot, but It has worked for me in the past when I used it peri-workout.

Waxy Maize Starch is good peri workout. I put on 7lbs over the summer using it, at about the same level of bodyfat. My shakes were

50g WMS
25g Whey Isolate/Concentrate blend
5g L-Leucine
5g Creatine

Half on the way to the gym, half after my warm up. Then another whole shake PWO. Its not the best for timing I grant you, but it worked. I’m playing around with Maltodextrin and Dextrose as carb sources (Malto pre and Dextrose post) when I finish my cut, but will go back and try WMS again after that.

For Insulin spiking / timing purposes:

  • Dextrose
  • Maltodextrin
  • Vitargo

For easy digestability (ie. no hurling on leg day)

  • WMS
  • Vitargo

I believe Palatinose would be good for pre-workout, as I heard that it can help the body retain water better (source?)

I would not recommend fructose for a workout, as it goes to the liver glycogen rather than muscle glycogen.

Oats are cheap and effective, if you choose them, get the SMALLEST ones possible, as there is a difference in GI and speed of digestability; they also have many other nutrients in them.

I do not know much about activated barley, sorry.

And although Vitargo falls into both above categories, it is damn expensive, so it may not be economical.

I like oats pre and post, they are cheap and easily available.
