I stumbled on this in MFW today. Sounds interesting, I’ve been waiting to see a little debate between these two guys.
"The purpose for the interview is education and giving each an opportunity to discuss why they believe what they believe about an incredibly important and powerful weight loss hormone - leptin.
Lyle and John agree on many things but one thing they do not agree on is whether “refeeds” will benefit the dieter. What’s a refeed? What is leptin? Let me introduce you to this amazing hormone produced primarily by your fat cells."
Sounds like fun, hopefully they’ll provide a transcript of the interview for people who can’t make it in time.
I only wish it were a more comprehensive interview beyond just leptin and refeeds (even though I’m really interested in that.)
I’m sure you guys are well aware of Lyle’s feelings on Berardi’s meal combining theories which he calls “voodoo nutrition.” In any case it’ll be an exciting interview. Too bad I won’t be able to make it.
Please please please have a written transcript of the interview
Wonder if poor Lyle looks like he lifts weights these days? After I saw a pic of him, I swore off keto diets!
Anyone else remember when Lyle would try to fight people that argued with him on the internet? He’d demand they meet him somewhere and fight. Of course, they didn’t show up because they’re not 12 years old and Lyle would claim victory. It was very sad. Guy may know a lot about nutrition, but he ain’t all there.
I’m in the same boat as ChuckieT; I wish I could skip work. It would be sweet if someone could type this sucker up (winking to Tampa-Terry, as I know that your background lends itself to typing super fast!).
I agree with Mr. Reality. Seeing Lyle’s picture a few years ago didn’t inspire a lot of trust in his methods. (I had forgotten about the fighting thing.) Berardi is pretty yoked. Who you gonna believe? CT made a big point about looking the part in his Beast Evolves article, and at least from a marketing standpoint, it’s hard to argue.
“Lyle” of “Holding a clock showing the arranged “fight” time with a “where are you” look on his face” picture, Lyle?
This should be interesting.
Maybe Johnny B will make a dietary exception and eat him?
"I got in a fight one time with a really big guy, and he said, “I’m going to mop the floor with your face.” I said, “You’ll be sorry.” He said, “Oh, yeah? Why?” I said, “Well, you won’t be able to get into the corners very well.”
For people who may not remember that far back, the reason that Lyle McD. has never written an article or anything for T-Mag is that in the very early days on of the guys who wrote an article (the Protein Cycling thing) and then, when Lyle made some pretty pointed criticisms of it, insulted him a bit.
So Lyle got huffy and swore off T-mag. And that’s the way it’s been ever since. I don’t know the guy personally, but anyone who gets that upset over something like that doesn’t seem too tightly wound. As for “voodoo nutrition”, too many of us have experienced gains by incorporating ME into our lifestyles to even make responding to that necessary.
Still, the guy knows a lot. It should be an interesting discussion.
as far as I can tell lyle is mostly into the ketogenic type diet? Meaning he is talking about only p+f meals, so what would he have against the macro separation?
He also doesn’t seem to profess his diets for people who actually exercise much, more of the sedentary types. At least that is what I gather.
Lyle has written extensively in regards to ketogenic diet and training, protein and the like. He has been great to correspond with and know’s his stuff. I consider him, Berardi, and Volk the forerunners of diet and nutrition.
Between the two of them Wed night, there should be a shitload of great information one could incorporate into a specific-diet regime.
The whole arguement that Lyle doesn’t know his stuff based on his physique is pretty weak. There are quite a few here that don’t sport very impressive physiques, yet are still very knowledgable.
By that arguement, you’d think Ronnie Coleman would be the best person to ask for training/dieting advice.
Sure, he’s rather eccentric, but that doesn’t take away from his knowledge. He’s a very smart guy.
Any one can google to find a picture of lyle, but you also have to read some of the google groups.
He has high resting cortisol, and low testosterone.
I wonder if bernardi has these problems?
Lyles also a monkey lovin, porn watchin, extremely intellegent person. Hes written a book on keto, but that doesnt mean that he only likes keto, and nothing else.
or you could all go along the lines of “duh, lyle knows nothing cos hes skinny, huh huh huh. Pro bbrs know everything cos they are like, big n stuff”
He seemed to be talking about some of these concepts quite a while ago, surely a forerunner. Yes he didn’t concern himself much with athlete’s programs, but he sure did try to make it work for the regular couch potato joe.
My point was marketability. If you could pick between two people with seemingly similar nutrition credentials, wouldn’t you pick the one who looked more like you wanted to? I’m not say that person is necessarily more correct (although, in this case I think it probably does), it’s just that you’d be more likely to choose the more impressive looking one.
