Plus you have to factor in the Internet numbers, which are usually 25 to 35 pounds higher than real life numbers.
I think Antman is right on! 405 is attainable if you get yourself around the right environment and stay committed. I have hit 405 in the gym but never in a comp raw. I have done 385 raw in a comp and 485 shirted…
Started training at 15, weighing about 135, benched about 100.
Hit 200 at around 160 pounds, after about 10 months of training.
Hit 300 at around 220 pounds, after about 2-1/2 years of training.
Hit 400 at around 240 pounds, after about 5 years of training.
I’m about to give 500 (raw, but no pause) a shot, right now I weigh about 270, after about 16 years of training.
The time intervals between the 100 pound increases seem to be exponential in nature; with any luck by 2030 I’ll be benching 600!

Oh my bad I forgot about that rule.I meant to say my bench is between 350-360 lol.

JOe, i think you misinterpreted some of the posts in the other thread, the 400 benches mentioned there were almost all for lineman, most of whom weighed 250+, 400 is around 1.5x BW for them, just about ANYONE with 5+ years traing experierence should be able to bench 1.5X BW, now if you train to get abs and stay under 200 BW a 400 isn’t anywhere near as easy as you won’t have the muscle or bobyweight to do it, in that case your 1.5x bench will be in the low 300’s.

Amen…
Clearly the lifter’s weight has to be taken into consideration. Both relative and absolute strength are important to consider.
With 400 and 500 being thrown around… Benching 500 would literally be benching 3.57x my body weight! Not saying it’s impossible… but not quite the same as someone who is 250+ pounds attempting the same feat.
I had a partial blow out of my left pectoral tendon in 1996. And since it was a partial tear they can’t re-attach it so my bench has been stuck at around the low 300’s of and on for years. I recently started doing floor presses (because of shoulder arthritis in no smart part caused by my shoulders overcompensating for my pec tear) and can now do 400 for a rep maybe more but I’m too scared to really push it.
My point is I agree that dedicated healthy lifters who train smart can almost allways eventually get there.

but the way I see it I just have a good excuse to focus on bench pressing now.
Im with you on that man, got hurt squating and been loveing being able to devote time to my bench.
The best thing is with a big bench you get a big upper body all around.
Well I didn’t get injured squatting it was in a pickup football game.I’m the strongest out of my group of freinds so obviously the tackles are gonna aim to take my legs out.

I hit 400 on the bench in several competitions when I was in my teens, blew my knee in football, blew my back deadlift, made amazing recovery, then blew my wrist going for a 500 lb bench. Just got back into competing, should be hitting 400 again sometime within the next month to two months…
Those RAW or shirted? How do you blow your wrist benching? that sounds painful.
Always shirted, I’d never bench any other way. Old Rage for first few comps with 400 lb benches, then switched to a Rage-X, hit a few PRs in that.
You blow your wrist benching by being very unlucky. I can’t really explain it to you. I pulled a tendon off of my radius, causing fluid leakage into my arm. Emergency surgery. Scar sucks too…[/quote]
Well, that’s completely different. How many other people are talking about benching 400 in a shirt? How many people did it drug-free and how many did it after going on?

405 don’t mean squat if you can’t see your weener while you pee.
And if you have a vagina?

No woman has ever benched 400+ without a shirt. Supposing it ever does happen, we can modify his statement to “405 don’t mean squat if you can’t see your weener/freaky AAS-enlarged clitoris while you pee.”
This thread is getting a bit off topic, we got people posting their bench who are under 400, didn’t ask for this, people posting shirted benches… did not ask for this either, I cleary said RAW in my first post, and people giving tips, this wasn’t a tread asking how to get there, it’s a thread to see how many people on T-Nation are already there. I also don’t think it’s relevant to post about how your brother from a differnt momma’s uncle can bench xxx.
The point of the thread was to illustrate that there arn’t that many people who can do it, even on a website where everyone probably considers themselves above the average gym rat.
I also wasn’t really dabating whether or not it is physically possible among everyone on the planet in terms of genetics, but saying that most who lift will never achieve it, whether that be genetic limitations, lack of effort, poor training, poor diet, mental obstacles, or a desire to stay under a certain weight which limits their absolute strength.

Well, if that is the case I guess I will jump in and post my bench. My last competition bench done in an AAU meet was 462 completely RAW - T shirt, singlet, shoes and socks. Since that time my best for reps is 420x5 RAW. I am 40 years old and have been competing since 2001.

I know of no woman who can see her clitoris while peeing, even if it’s AAS enlarged. Girls who put their head in the bowl while peeing maybe but not the ones who sit up straight.

Damn Raw Power,
That’s a very fitting name.
From reading your previous post I knew you to be strong but this is, well powerful.
How did you do it? What worked? Break it down for us.
