Definitely get them. If you want to use them, use them. I’m 31 and started using sleeves at 29 when my knees started aching a bit. I’ve still got the Eleikos I got back then. With the belt I’d go Titan or Inzer, either lever or single prong. Personally I’d say 13 mm Titan lever would be the best option but that’s just me.
Another Inzer Forever 13 mm lever user here. Had a hand me down double prong belt before i bought the lever belt, and I doubt I’ll ever use anything but the Inzer. Never really used knee sleeves.
I am an admitted gear whore and I am proud of it. But, I wanted to stop wrapping my knees with real knee wraps but still wanted some support. I bought the EFTS super heavies and have been using them exclusively for the last 5 years. I wear a belt every workout - for my heavy sets - usually my pr set. I pound my abs hard. The thing with the belt is that I cannot imagine not pushing out against it on heavy lifts - so I put it on for those.
I am 48 and have never had knee problems (and plan on keeping that way by wearing the sleeves) - but I have had back problems - though none for awhile - thus I will continue what I am doing. My guess is that if you get a good belt and sleeves you will never look back. I use the elite fts leather with a lever - I think it’s called “prodigy.” A phenomenal product and worth every penny. I also used
various Inzers in my day and they are fine too.
I’m 49 and just started using knee sleeves, because my right knee was acting up (small bone spur) and I was sick of having such a weak squat. Huge boost in confidence more than anything squating with sleeves. I picked up a pair of “Evolutionize” from Amazon at the suggested size. My calves are 2 inches larger (16.5) than my knees (14.5) so I can’t imagine going with a smaller size.
As for belts, I only use it for squats and occasionally for max dead lifts. I’ve had a single piece 6mm bodybuilding (tapered) belt for 20-years that didn’t see much use. However, I did treat myself to a new 13mm powerlifting belt from “Best Belts” over the holidays - single prong, firm, but still supple. Once again, mainly for squats since I prefer to bench, deadlift, and power clean without a belt. I have been trying out the belt with deadlifts, but still not sure if I prefer with or without. Currently, leaning towards no belt with deadlifts, but I am only deadlifting in low 400s so grip strength is limiting factor before core strength for now. Good luck.
P.S. Jim’s 5/3/1 is the juice that got me back to intelligently lifting, stretching, and sprinting. Can’t thank him enough and looking forward to book 3!
