Beginner Help (531)

Hi everyone,

I’m returning back to lifting after around a year and I’m thinking about running 531 prep school as this was the program I liked before. I’ve never really done a linear progression before but I’m pretty comfortable with the lifts (trained a year ago for around 6 months).

Would there be sense in following a linear progression for a few months before running prep school or can I just go straight into prep school?

Thanks

I don’t think there is a wrong answer here; either approach would work in my impression. I have done LP before doing 5/3/1 but in all honesty I would just go straight to 5/3/1 if I were starting out today. I think you will get to the same place 6 months from now using either approach but with LP you will most assuredly hit a stopping point whereas with 5/3/1 you can progress far longer and it will be a lot less boring if you switch up the 5/3/1 programs as needed to keep you motivated.

If prep school looks cool to you I would 100% do that rather than get bored feeling like you’re “putting your time in” on something else

I ran prep school earlier this year without doing a LP first.
