Battle for the Olympia 1996

Very cool. I forget how long it’s been since '96 -lol. I’m the old man here, I named every single pro on there, and remember quite vividly seeing them in Flex every month (I started training in '93, and Yates was the man!)

Is that serious or a joke?

Yeah, I remember reading that article. I recall it warning against the dangers of using off-seasons weights when dieted down for a contest.

He does kind of look like Titus Pullo (Ray Stevenson) in the face though.

I still have the '94 Mr. Olympia taped form a ESPN broadcast (can you believe that ESPN used to actually televise bodybuilding related things). I’m pretty sure it was '94 anyway. I might have the year wrong but I know it’s the one where Dorian won with a torn bicep.

Nope. Tore both his quads with 675 on the bar.

Must have been a new type of pain.[/quote]

The other thing I remember from the article was that they said he had the presence of mind to straighten his legs out right after it happened. I guess they said that helped with the swelling and preventing the damage from being worse.

I can’t imagine what that would have felt like…

My coach tore both of his quads squatting in competition in October 2007. He’s a tough bastard, but even he looks a little queasy when talking about it.

Oh, and he went on to deadlift so as to not bomb out of the competition.
