Bas Vs Warpath

I hadn’t seen the fight posted yet so I thought I’d go ahead and do so. It’s too bad they couldn’t have found a quality replacement in time. Looks like Bas hasn’t skipped a beat, hopefully we’ll see him again soon.

THe whole fight looks fishy to me. I think that if bas’s opponent wanted to win, that he would have given Bas a much better run for his money.

Watch the video again, you’ll see what I’m talking about. BTW, I used to like Bas as well. His fight w/ Frank Shamrock is one of my favorites.

BAS is the man.

that guy took some crazy smacks and kept coming.

Ruben Villareal, Bas’ opponent, took the fight on 1 day notice because the original fighter, Kimo, tested positive for roids and was not sanctioned to fight. Whatever you may feel about the guy, accepting the fight with that little time, under that big a spotlight, and against such a seasoned opponent took a giant set of nuts…

its too bad he couldn’t have performed better, but at least he took the shots like a man instead of running away from Bas.

Nice to see Bas back after being off for 7 years. Haven’t heard if this is a serious comeback or he’s just out there to have fun with it. I’ve seen him cornering for some younger fighters in the UFC, apparantly is training some very good guys.

UFC needs to hire him to do color commentary like he used to do for Pride. I like Rogan, but Bas blows him out of the water.

I’ve never seen someone lose on leg kicks before. Bas chopped his legs out from under him in… what? Five leg kicks?

Yeah, like I said. It’s too bad we couldn’t have seen him against Kimo or even Wes Simms. Either way the guy has balls to step in the octagon with Bas especially on 1 day notice. It’s gotta be a shitty feeling knowing the only fans you have watching are your immediate family and friends. The commentators said it perfectly. Something along the lines of “He must fee like the only person in the building.”

Oh how I would kill to see Rutten vs. Liddell.

The fight was legit. Warpath is a very tough dude but not real talented and he took the fight on 1 days notice.

Bas is an animal and one of the hardest hitters I have ever seen. The way he hits pads is scary.

Leg kick knockouts are not that uncommon, especially when you are talking about the kind of power that Rutten has.

As sad as I am to say it, I dont think Bas will fight again. He has a number of injuries plaguing him and he didnt really seem into smashing the shit out of a guy again. Time will tell.

Cro Cop low kicked Yoshida so hard in the last Pride fight it cracked his femur. It was weird, two PPV’s in a row with low kick KO’s, something I had never seen before.

I watched this fight live and never thought it looked fishy. Warpath took some huge shots right on the chin and just kept coming. The guy had 2 days notice I think and Bas looked sharp. I give Warpath credit for doing what he did given the circumstances.

At 205 Bas would get his butt handed to him by many if not all of the top UFC fighters. He’s fighting in this third rate league for a reason.

Yea…yea I know he beat Frank Shamrock BEFORE Shamrock was any good so what?

Yeah, because they pay more. You really have no clue what you’re talking about do you?

Ha ha…Yea, I do.

And I also know that Bas wouldn’t make enough for lunch money if he fought top rated guys. But he sure looked good beating the snot out of that stiff huh?

Oooooooo…he’s soooo dangerous!

Grow up.

ZEB, were we watching the same fight? Bas was sharp as hell. He’s probably the best striker in history. He’s also the most respected man in MMA. Not to mention he’s trained with every top fighter in the world because he’s so popular.

Yea, I’d call him dangerous.

I would love to see you talk some smack in Rutten’s face. Hell get in a cage with him and tell him he’s washed out. Now that’s something to laugh at. You idiot.

Words from Bas about the fight. Date: 07/24/2006

The fight itself through my brain

The game plan was to see if I could KO him, if that wouldn?t work, because we know he had a strong chin, I would see if I could ?chop down his legs? and if that didn?t work I would go for a takedown and a submission, but later in the fight when he would get tired.

I trained for 7 rounds of 6 minutes, so I was not going to get tired; the things I did in training were insane, so I knew that I was always going to have more stamina. More than Kimo, Tank, Wes and Warpath, that was the order from the fighters that I was going to face.

Straight punches was also the game plan, since he has a longer reach than I have. For the people who though I had my hands to low, that was also part of my game plan, you hear my corner saying the same thing to me during the fight, and I motion them that it?s OK. I did this because my right rib had popped out a week before in training and I wasn?t allowed to numb it up with an injection in the dressing room.

This way, with my hands low, he would only hit for my head and not my body, also, I saw that his punches were ?looping? so if I would go backwards his hands would be down after a punch and I could capitalize on that.

When I realized that he had a good chin, and trust me, you will see that I didn?t hit one punch on just his head, I really aim for his jaw, and since they all where right on his jaw, I knew he had a great chin, time for plan 2, I started to low kick him.

Also, I always listen to what HIS corner is saying, I heard them saying that I was ?one dimensional? with my punches (which was true because I wanted to give only straights), that was the moment that I gave him a left hook/right straight, see? You can use that against him. I had the same in my Kohsaka fight, Maurice Smith told TK that I was going to high kick him (which was true) that?s why I changed it into a right straight, worked like a charm.

The first low kick had good impact, the second also, and the third, while I was backing up, was very good, I hit him with the shin part right underneath my knee (which is the best) after that I saw him limping, so that?s where the last one came, I should have stepped that one in deeper because he moved backwards and I hit him with the part just underneath my toes, not good but it closed the deal.

It was a great nigh for me; I fell really good and relaxed. I am happy that Warpath stepped up the last minute so I had a fight, too bad it wasn?t Kimo, I was going to show off my takedown defense, I couldn?t do that right now.

Oh, and when I said that I wanted to fight Fedor at the press conference, I said first that I didn?t want to fight him because he?s so good, THAN I said, you know what? I would like to fight him, but just to see if I can survive him the whole fight. ( I know how good he is and I am a natural light heavyweight)

When they asked my where I saw myself ranked, I told them that I hoped (HOPED) I was on the top 10 list, because knowing that there are 6.000.000.000 people on the planet that would be pretty unbelievable.

What I am trying to say is that I know that I need some more training to fight the top guys, but I am good on my way, there was no ?ring rust? at all and the stamina was there.

Thanks for all the support, I will get some things done to my body and hopefully you see me again!

Best wishes,
Bas

Yes, he looked sharp, because he fought a BUM

Does that mean he should be top ranked?

No.

Um…LOL…Ahh…LMAO…Okay…gotta answer that one later laughing to hard now…

Oh darn you didn’t read my post, you just started typing huh?

I never said he was not respected. I simply said that he would be beaten by any of the top fighters at his weight class in the UFC. And…I stand by that comment as it’s spot on!

He’s 41 and while Randy Couture was able to stay at the top for a while in his 40’s most fighers can’t do it, and I don’t see Bas as the exception.

And I also never said he was a bad coach did I?

Read the post next time that way you can avoid sounding like you don’t know what you’re talking about.

Oh I get it…in order for any of us to critique Bas Rutten (or any other fighter) we have to be able to beat them. Is that your idiotic contention?

Then you better start with all of the commentators who give written, posted or given on air commentary for Boxing, Kickboxing, UFC and all of the other combat sports. And when you’re done there make sure that you pop into the homes of all of the fans who pay money to see combat sports and surely have an opinion that might not be flattering to certain fighters.

Let them all know that if they can’t actually beat the fighter that they are speaking about then they have to lie about him and say lots of good things.

Ha ha…you are one very, very misguided individual when it comes to comparing fighters.

I repeat my original contention for anyone else who is interested:

Bas Rutten would get beaten, soundly by the top fighters at his weight class in the UFC.

If someone wants to intelligently debate that exact point then I welcome it.

So far no one has!

How can anyone say Bas looked sharp?

All he did was throw haymakers against a tomato can.

He didn’t show much skill in the fight.

Damn, you are not bright.

How are you going to say that when he hasn’t fought anybody at the top yet. You have no fucking clue how he would fare against these guys. Neither do I.

Shut your ass up.

My dad is bigger than your dad.
