Good articles. I wear Vibrams for lifting, running and biking. Only “shoe” I will train in besides bare feet. Still not fun stubbing your toes.[/quote]
I’ve been hearing alot about Vibrams these days…I assume that’s as close to barefoot lifting as I’m going to get. I lived down in the Dutch Antilles for a couple of years and I could get away lifting barefoot down there but no chance of that in the gyms in MA. I think I’m going to pick up a pair of 5-fingers.

Highly recommended from me. Here is a recent thread about them.

DITTO! You may also want to look at Nike Free’s. I hate Nike running shoes, however I love my Free’s.
Good stuff. I’ve been lifting in vibrams for a couple years now and just started running in them. It definitely takes some getting used to, the muscles in your feet, ankles, and calves will be very sore. I started running in Nike Free about 3 years ago and my shoe size shrunk from a 10 to a 9, it pulled the arch up.
If anybody is interested in barefoot running I would suggest the book “Born to Run” by Christopher McDougall I bought it as an audiobook on itunes, but hear it’s a great read as well.

Thank you Army. I’ve seen those pop up on here too. I have a buddy who works in Management at Vibram so I might have him send me a “sample” pair of 5-Fingers

Haha, you assume I haven’t tried. I lived in the islands…I was always barefoot and coming back to MA has made me buy shoes again. But yea, I tried in my gym but I got yelled at.
I too have jumped on the barefoot wagon. Its my vibrams or nothing else. Ive tried other forefoot shoes and the best ones besides the vibrams for running would be the Nike Frees or Newtons. The Newtons actually have padding in the midfoot that helps you spring off the balls of your feet. Probably makes you a little faster. Wouldnt wear them for lifting though, stick to my vibrams or chucks.
Vibrams are great… I love my pair but the only thing is that they smell SOOO BAD! My shoes don’t really smell but my vibrams stink lol. I’ve thrown them in the washer a few times but they still always kinda smell… Anyone else have this problem?

NP Gregron, from the vibram 5 fingers website here are the care and cleaning instructions.
CARE AND CLEANING
Vibram FiveFingers are machine washable. Use gentle, warm water cycle with liquid or powdered detergent. Hang to air dry. Make sure to keep the KSO Trek, Performa, and Moc away from direct sunlight or heat source while drying.
I used to lift with shoes on, but nowadays I leave the shoes in the locker room. I go barefoot(with socks). Most gyms over here are cool with barefoot lifting, at least if you have socks on.
I don’t see why you wouldn’t be allowed to lift without shoes.
