Barbell Bicep Curl - Wrist Problem

Try using a looser grip on the bar. I used to have the same problem and loosening my grip helped tremendously.

Have you guys ever considered he made a 20% jump in a weight selection, and maybe his wrists just aren’t conditioned to it yet?

There could be a few reasons.

  1. Could be what you just said
  2. He could just be bitching about similar pain most people get when they first start curling with barbells.
  3. Hasn’t been curling enough for his body to get used to the pressure
  4. Or he really does have a medical issue with his wrist/forearm.

yeah I stopped curling in general, so it’s been a bit for me.

Who the fuck are you again?

They hit the muscles a bit different, but since he’s a beginner it probably won’t make any difference one way or another. I think the straps can help if he’s “breaking” the wrists at the top or bottom but not sure if they would help in this matter.

I’m more concerned with:

  1. why it hurts in the first place
  2. why he’s doing curls to assist his pullups/chins after not training very long

Oh, and wrist straps will help with pullups too if you are losing your grip, but I would only use them once you fail, just like an assist or a negative. Your main goal is to get your numbers up and your grip strength will most likely build up along with that.[/quote]

I was reffering to wrist wraps not straps…Straight bar curls can cause a type of tendonitis in the connective tissue in the forearms. Ive seen powerlifters who have competed for years with the same problem. When you curl your hands naturally want to turn in because its a smoother motion. This is due to your bone structure. Its fine to use them while going HEAVY… if light to moderate curls hurt then yes I aree that there could be a problem… And then I would stick to other bars…

Maybe you’ve noticed a lot of kids cussing and throwing names because your an assclown and you just attract that kind of attention.
You’ve definitely only hurt your reputation with many of your rude responses in this thread.

thank you.

1)Why are you doing curls to help a pull up? They would help a chin up, not a pull-up

2)Stretch those wrists out baby. You have two hands, use one to stretch the other. When I first started front squatting I thought my wrists would snap off. Luckily the tendons stretch very quickly.

3)Get a rope, some weights, a relatively thick stick (1.5-2.5inch in diameter), and a ledge. Tie the rope around the stick, tie the weight to the rope, drop the weight off the ledge, hold on to the stick. Roll that sucker up and down all day long. You’ll get those wrists.

4)I would suggest doing pullups if you want to do more pullups. Try using weighted pullups, then strip the weight and boom, you’ll do more.

Wooooooooooooooooooooooo

I get slight pain in my wrists as well when I barbell curl so I generally stick to dumbbells which strangely, don’t give me any trouble at all.

This is all really ironic coming from someone with the middle finger as their avatar.

Way to distract attention away from my main point. I have not said anything about disagreeing with his advice, there for my reason for disliking him has nothing to do with opposing viewpoints on barbell curls. My point is that his posts come off as rude and arrogant, and that because of this, he instigates conflict, hence the reason he notices many people insulting him.

p.s. on a completely unrelated topic, the one you brought up about my vocabulary, do you not see the irony in judging someone based on their use of the term “assclown” when your avatar is a giant middle finger?
