Bald or Gray?

I use the Headblade too and swear by it. Getting around the ears is a little tricky, but I use my Mach 3 for that.

As for 911Girl’s comments, here’s my thoughts: So what? If it’s her preference, then fine. I don’t see what the deal is.

I have yet to get any bald jokes tossed at me. Then again, I’m 6’2" so maybe they think I’ll stomp them.

Well - I did it. I am now bald. I’d show pics - but for some reason my scalp is as white as vroom’s belly.

Believe it or not, I used to have thick, curly hair. And I grew it out in college. It was so curly that it just stayed on top of my head like a big bozo the clown afro, but if I pulled the curls straight, they would go below my chin.

I started thinning in my early 20’s so I started to cut it shorter and shorter. Eventually, I did the Caesar cut, and then almost four years ago, I decided to take the electric beard trimmer, take the guard off and buzz it as short as it would go.

That’s how I do it now. I used to buzz it once a week, but I prefer it shorter and “cleaner” so now I do it 2-3 times a week. I’m not ready to go for the complete shave with a razor yet, and this is easier to do (for me).

As for comments, I’ve had many more women want to come up and rub my head and tell me how sexy they think it is than every before.

Of course, I always get stupid comments like, “Hey, Mr. Clean” or “Man, you most polish your head for that shine” or even, “You’re the short bald dude” and others like that. I don’t care. Buzzing my head was the best thing I ever did. I should have done it years earlier!!!

I don’t have any grey on my head, but I do get a few grey, red, blonde, brown and “clear” hairs in my goatee! There aren’t many of them. Usually one or two here and there. So you don’t notice them much, but sometimes, it looks pretty cool when you find one.

p.s. This photo is from two years ago. I’ve put on a lot more size since then (and some tattoos).

Sweet! Welcome to the club. Now, to get that head tanned quickly, take a few drives in a convertible! LOL! It works for me. I can keep my head/face tan year round just from driving with the top down a few times.

Welcome oh brother of the chrome-dome! Glad to have you in the club - I had no idea you took the plunge. One quick thing to be aware of… when outside and it’s sunny, if you don’t have a hat on, slap on some sunscreen until you develop that tan. I sunburned scalp is decidedly bad times.

I want to echo much of what Nate Dogg said. Thinning in my 20’s, started to keep cut short and then buzzed with no attachments… until that day I said screw it and shave it all off. The bonus is that it is an easy clean up if you do it in the shower (i.e. no clean up at all).

People who have only known me without hair FREAK OUT when they see my old photos. Thankfully, almost everyone prefers the “new” me… which is good, 'cause they ain’t got no choice and I like it just fine this way.

Yes, definitely do. I burnt the shit out of my head last year when I first bought my car and rode with the top down all weekend.

I always buzz my head in the shower. I can do the bulk of the buzzing while leaning over the tub. Then I can go back to the mirror for any spots I missed and to trim the neckline. It definitely makes for an easier clean up. I also get in the tub when doing all bodypart trimming. Then you just turn on the shower and wash it down the drain!

LOL! Same here! When people see me with hair (especially my afro), they can’t believe it. And most like it now more than when I had hair.

Just FYI I have pretty thick facial hair, and I now use the mach3 power. It’s not like a world of difference over the turbo, but it does seem to handle the really thick parts a tad smoother, less pull and such. The other things is it feels pretty cool. my .02

  1. RJ, I can’t believe you started this thread all that time ago and have just now taken the plunge–and I beat you to it.
A shaved head is the balls. But for God’s sake be careful about the sun, cause a sunburnt noggin will fuck up your whole day.
(think of laying your head on a nice soft pillow…with skin that’s on fire!)

  2. Can we have a thread where Nate posts without a picture of him???
At least he wasn’t almost showing the boys this time.

I just wanted to make you happy this time and show you that I do have photos with some shorts on! LOL!

Yeah, and I appreciate that you kept your pants on…

Bump-a-ma-call-it

I’m 27, going gray since I was 21. It’s gotten a lot worse in the past year.

I’ve found a small patch on my goatee now as well.

Ahh well, better to go gray than bald I say.

If you decide to shave it, shave and wax the top of your head but leave the sides for a couple days. THIS WOULD BE INCREDIBLY FUNNY! Your friends would high five you, your kids would chuckle; however your wife may get frustrated with it. Try it and see if people interact with you differently. Hell, I have blondish hair and I have always wanted to do this…

I’d go happily go grey tomorrow if it stopped my hair receding. Even better white.

My uncle went grey early and started going white at about 35, now has thick white hair. When he walks into a room he is unequivocally the alpha male-of course their are other reasons- but it definitely gives him a lot of stature.(And women seem to frigging love it)

Oh yeah, another bump from the olden days. I remember this one!

It wasn’t until 2006 that I started to shave it with the Headblade. Love it now! I should have done it sooner.

Man, I wish it was still like that. Now, my goatee is going crazy gray!!!

It seemed to happen as soon as I got married. D’oh!

Rainjack, where art thou?

I would absolutely prefer going gray. I’m 22 and I am going to be a 25er baldy I have a feeling. I sported longer hair for a while but have been cutting it shorter lately. Getting pretty close to the event horizon that is the first buzz/shave.

Just worried because once I do it, I am pretty sure there will be no going back. Any words of encouragement? I am pretty big and on my way to getting cut up. Also I get tanned pretty easily. Should be okay right? … right?!?
