Bagsy's Training Log

My pleasure. Not to sound overly nationalistic (the fact that I’m not is well established) but I think Germany is a very safe travel destination in all regards.
Mask mandates won’t be gone completely until your arrival but probably loosened. All other mandates won’t hinder your experience. In May I even expect mass gatherings to be allowed again. Not sure how comfortable I feel with all of this but I trust the experts will make the right call. Since one of those has become our minister of health I feel reasonably confident.

Nah, not nationalistic. I think you’re right. I’m not so worried about infection after landing somewhere. The long flight is a bigger concern. But I’ve already been to four concerts among many people, so I’m not that hesitant. Still, all that pales in comparison to everything else that terrifies me now in so many other ways.

I’m waiting to see if flight prices drop a little, which also grants me more time to monitor the other stuff. For better or for worse.

I’m attempting to catch up on training logs. Have kept lifting and logging minimally during these stressful past 3 weeks. So happy to see how well you have recovered and continue to be a badass.
Can you fill me in on this challenge thingy? I was vaguely aware of it but missed it. Would be a good thing to do before I leave on vacation in a couple days (jealous? Hahaha)

Thanks for reading! Glad you’ll be able to escape the stress for a bit. Seems like you need it. And yes, I am jealous. I ache for a vacation.

Forgive me, my brain isn’t working well lately – which challenge do you mean?

Press challenge? It must’ve been a few weeks ago

Oh! Now I remember. Seeing how many presses one can perform in thirty minutes.

Roger. Any specific rules, like from the floor, from rack, percentage of BW, or just challenge yourself and have “fun”?

Here you go mate:

There’s the original.

Split 3 mile run 23:56

This was more of a way for me to get to my client’s apartment and back to mine faster than it was to push hard on a run, but I guess it’s worth logging. I ran a little over half of it before volunteering for a bit and then finished the rest on the way home. The weather is perfect. I finally got a good night’s sleep, too.

Feeling so cooked mentally, and body image sucks right now even though my belt is slightly looser than it was several weeks ago. But at least deadlifts moved like clockwork after 23k steps yesterday.

Sorry to hear this. Deadlifts looked good though!

Apropos absolutely nothing, I was watching the finale of the Jeopardy College Championships last night and one answer should’ve been “Who is Banksy?” but I instead muttered to my very tired, sleep-deprived self, “Who is Bagsy?” I immediately knew it was wrong but it took me a second to realize the correct answer and to remember who Bagsy was.

This was hard. Not surprising. The top set might be a PR by one rep, but I’m not sure. The BBB sets were tough.

My head has not been in it lately. Stress and anxiety are consuming me, and I’m only getting one good sleep per week. I’ve worked stupidly long days on Monday and Tuesday the past few weeks, to the point where I feel useless on Wednesdays.

Yesterday for the first time since June I video chatted with a friend who now lives in the UK. He slapped me in the face with a reality check about my mental state, which I think helped. I’m going to simply focus on attacking the remaining three days of the cycle and go from there. One day at a time.

And I decided I’m going to book a trip to Germany and tell my advisor after the fact. :^) I am so looking forward to a vacation.

I generally hate the quote that is roughly, “it’s easier to ask for forgiveness than to get permission” because it often implies or at least can imply lack of consent in dicey scenarios. However, I think this is a perfect application!

Thankfully my advisor is good about these things. She even encourages it, often insisting that we leave. If she has a problem with it, I will remind her that I have not taken time off since June. It’s not a good time for me to do this, but I think it will be better in the long run anyway. To be honest I don’t even really care at this point.

Happy cake day!

Low on time, so I had to choose between lunges and ab work, and even then I had to cut the assistance short. I am pleased that I got all the reps on squats, though the top set was kind of ugly. Still, a PR is a PR.

Still a PR party in here. A PRarty.
