This morning I was walking out the door to work and was about to put on my jacket when out of no where the middle of my back just seized up and felt like someone was stabbing me with an icepick . It hurt like a mother fucker to bend over. It didnt hurt as bad as long as I kept my back up straight.
I took a soma (muscle relaxer) and now it just feels like I pinched a nerve in the middle part of my back on the left side. The thing is is I wasnt doing any strenous activity prior to/during the time when this occurred. I havent worked out in 2 days and felt perfect prior to this. I also have no history of back problems.
Anyone have this happen to them before? Fast fixes? I dont want to layoff the deads/squats but at the same time, I dont want to have to eat soma to get through my workout either.

people do this all the time. one of the worst back problems I’ve had happened one day when I sneezed on the bus, and twisted to not hit the girl sitting beside me.
you said it was before work… There is something about fluid pooling in the vertibre during sleep and it takes a while after for the spine to become mobile again (30 min 60 min? don’t remember… also why i don’t understand those morning trainers that can start with stiff legged deads at 5:30 am… anyway.)
i bet 10 bucks you’ve never been to a chiropractor. Most likely your spine, or rib, shifted out of position (probably due to some imbalance or posture issue).
You’ve got 2 choices: 1-Go to a chiropractor, pronto. (a good one, preferably one familiar with bodybuilders) OR 2-Don’t… and what will happen is your back will (most likely) adjust to the shift, and eventually the pain will go away, and the muscle will relax. although it is likely that this will cause further muscle imbalances.

Thanks for the response. I think I am going to go to a chiro but Im going to head to my Doctor first so hopefully I can get it covered under insurance.
The wierd thing is, it is now 36 hrs later and my back is perfect again. No more pinched nerve (which normally takes me at least 2-3 weeks to get rid of), no soreness, no pain.
