Back Pain- Pins and Needles

Well, for about the past 3wks. I’ve had this lower back pain. After the first couple days my middle back started to go tingly and pins and needles when i stand for awhile.

I’m trying to stay out of the doctors so i dont have to switch primary care physicians… damn HMO… but if it gets worse with some time off im gona go. I’m gona take a week off and see how it feels.

When I lift, esp. when i do legs the pain gets bad enough were i have to lay down for a bit till it goes away.

I blew a disc freshman year doing shotput, but this was like 4yrs ago. I remember the feeling but this isnt the same, so anyone who knows anything or has any imput please let me hear it.

Ultimately, I don’t think asking for medical advice is condoned here.

Having had to deal with back issues recently, I can’t stress enough that you get to a qualified health care professional. This is the type of thing you don’t want to needlessly aggravate.

All the best, buddy.

Hey man I’ve been there myself. I couldnt do any lower body workouts for 4 months because of a back problem.

Your problem sounds serious. I’d see a doctor if it were me.
Good luck!

Doctors are a LAST option.
First try physical therapy, get a MRI to see whats up.
Go to a chiropractor who specializes in sports injury
Tyr taking time off
try stretching
try anti-inflammatory
try accupuncture
try traction
try message
try everything BEFORE going to a “doctor” they are paid to cut.
Did your injury happen due to impact?
Did the injury come out of nowhere?
Pins and needles means NERVE problems, \you also probably get hot spots.
Many times muscles pull and pinch nerve and create problems.
I had a L5-S1 full herniated disc from high school football and I was able to delay the surgery for 15 years, finally it was so bad that I couldnt function(work, drive, play or fuck) and had surgery. I got speared playing football.
The surgery was a total success and I now deadlift over 600- go figure?
Always let surgery be the last option.
Chances are the if you can have a normal life, its probably something temporary.
Everyone else will tell you to go to the doctor immed., I just wanted to give you my side and opinion.
ps if your go to a doctor, make sure he is a sports oriented doctor and check his past success with your symptom.

Ya I feel ya bro… I’ve already had 2 blown out knees and reconstructive surgery on my shoulder.

I do agree with the nerve statement… but I’m starting to think that i have been pushing my body for too long. Atleast part of it is that I have been going extremely heavy for the past 8wks and havent given my body a break.

I am gona go check out this ART therapist tomorrow and see whats up. From what I have heard these people work wonders.

I agree with this. Try to find a chiropractor that is a certified ART specialist. It can work wonders.

Check out the thread on the old fart’s section (I am one).

This past Fri. my low back went out on me! What terrible pain, been crawling to the bathroom or with two canes. Had to wear my old lifting belt in the shower. It’s been a nightmare & I still can’t believe it’s happened to me.

But, I knew it could happen at any moment. Been neglecting my stretching ( hams ) did the legs out in front of me stretch & could hardly grap my ankles. And I’ve been neglecting my core workouts…just too tired from my regular workouts.

But not anymore! Stretching & core work will be my main two from now on!

Here’s a look at my weekend.

FRI: Back went out, in bed all day, iced several times.

SAT: In bed all day

SUN: Same as above

Mon. In bed all day, finally got to the Chiropracter!!!

Tues. Woke up feeling much better! I could actually stand up straight & didn’t need the canes or walk with my chair on wheels!

Wed. Same as Tues. Get treated today again.

AND, finally had a BM on Tues. I had no idea the low back muscles had such a big role in ones’ BM.

Anyways, sorry to hi-jack this thread. But this has been scary as hell for me. I’m 29 & felt like a hundred yr. old man! Also, what led to my problem was playing tennis ( high level I play ) on the stupid hard court. I usually play on clay. 6 days in a row of hard court did me in.

But I’m now recovering and when heeled will continue to see the CP month to month to keep my body fine tuned. Good luck to the rest of you. My crying is over.

Potentially VERY dangerous advice. Don’t start with an orthopaedic surgeon – fine – but get professional help when you are talking about possible nerve damage. There are plenty of qualified people who could diagnose the problem without recommending surgery.

Bump!

Try multiple chiropractors before a doctor, maybe a kinesiologist. I went for 12 visits to Dr. P from mid-May to end of June, and got a tiny improvement,

I’ve gone 6 times now to Dr. I, and after the 3rd one I was PAIN free baby!

BTW I have a herniated disc and another one starting to protrude.

Stretching is a good idea of course, but it will NOT solve the problem as it stands now, trust me. I’ve been in your boat 2x over the last year. It is preventive not curative.

What you may need is assisted stretching, it will hit you in ways you simply can’t do on your own, Your chiro or maybe a PT can do it with you. I recommend it.

Update!

5 days in a row of tiny adjustments & I’m doing ALOT better. No more canes or chair on wheels to walk with. And no more crawling either. I can now stand up somewhat straight & it feels great!

Was worried there for some time. Will continue to get adjustment next week & will be able to work. Just need to maintain the adjustments this time ( once a month ) for continued health & well being!
