Baby Got Back.

Also remember what I emailed you about starting from the box and standing up. Getting the feel of the bottom position first, then adding a bar and squatting to the box. I think it will work well for you imo.

lights just turned on yes, now i remember, can I blame it on Holiday shopping fatigue?

I will review notes and do it before squats. We can finish out this “on line” session
but its way easier emailing.

Yes on depth, i have another “box” i can use that is higher. Getting over my fear a little anyway, so thats good. i must have had a chair pulled out from under me as a kid !

Lol sure on shopping fatigue. I may ralley tonight ugh!
I hear you on eamiling
easier and quicker. But whatever works for you?
To increase height i would consider using plates? Then you can take away a plate at a time for small changes? Actually plywood cut into squares and stacked works very well. So please get out your table saw and get cutting
tool time girl!!! Yea! Lol.

I am anxious to hear how squats went today. Hopefully I didn’t make the whole box thing too frustrating?

YAY! Up vids with sound!! You have the sweetest voice! So adorbs!

Too funny on your trepidation with the box squat. I think sometimes we just have strange mental roadblocks that we need to get over. But this’ll be more like a speed bump for you. Once you get it, it’ll be an “aha” moment and you’ll feel more comfortable and be box squatting like a champ.

I like German’s suggestion on starting sitting and going from there. I had the BIGGEST fear of pistol squats all through my knee rehab and I would start my first set sitting on the bench and raising myself up. I still do actually!! Pistol squats are fucking unnatural I tell ya!

Anyways, you’re such a fast learner, you’ll get it in no time! I’ll be looking forward to seeing you do them in a few weeks! Its so awesome to look back at your vids and be like, “remember when
” You got this, girl!

Curious, what are your training goals this time around? Why the box squats?

Keep up the great work!

That depth looks perfect to my critical eye. Great progress here as usual. Love your vids. Keep them coming so I can live vicariously.

wow you have some long legs
awesome! Squats look good to me as well, If I may I would echo G1’s with regards to the Knees going forward, but overall very good. The box squats as I said before were a great tool for me with regards to depth. Ummmm have you ever tried to do any voice over work?

Mash I will get the box squats
someday. Ill explain goals below, if y0u can hang threw the read :open_mouth:

SNAP I am full of SUCK lately, you may want to pick someone else to live vicariously threw.
I will try to pick up the pace, just for you.

Matty yea sigh i know on the knees, I think I will always have some forward movement but hope to get it a little better. A girl can dream cant she?
voice over? hmmm, Im not sure that vid is the best representation of my voice.

training

squats
45/10 65/7 75/5 98/3x6,5,6.3.3,5,3,2,1,2,1 with a few more lol

SO i was getting depth today and i wasnt stopping till i got them, then when i did, i wasnt stopping till that feeling was embedded. I had to use a mirror , and will continue till i get depth more consistently.(depth meaning below parallel).

Ive been feeling a little suck lately, so i guess i have been easily frustrated with my own expectations.

My original goals were vanity, you know just wanting to look good nakkid, and like i lift
more than pink dumbells clothed.
I mean who doesnt want a tight ass and tummy? Then I got the bug to get stronger, having a little taste of it, i wanted more.
Then i was happy with above parallel or some parallel squats, i mean quads were getting hit
but it wasnt any fun if i felt i wasnt hitting depth, like it didnt count.

In came the box and going deeper. My knees still shoot forward, and i need to get that under control more, but I hit more below parallel then ever before, if ever even did.

Im not really sure I have settled on goals, they keep changing. I like getting stronger, if i can keep my form in check.

I dont have any desire to look any “bigger”, but maybe more defined again.

But most of all I dont want to feel suck.
I guess I cant give up.
I need to appreciate the little improvements, that will come slow and be excepting of those that i cant seem to improve upon.

I like to look at this as “part of my life”, not take it over.

Ill get my vid up tomorrow.

Hmm
I think I understand
and even though you may feel like things aren’t as you expect them (perfectionist?), you have to remember that you’re doing something that isn’t particularly mainstream in the female population, so you’re already quite unique and you should be very proud of yourself for lifting and dispelling the myths associated with lifting! You’re so much more than pink barbie weights - you’re super woman status!

And I do understand about training being a part of your life" and not letting it take over. lol!! I feel like that sometimes myself. There is a very obsessive quality to lifting - the food, the form, hell, even logging! But its a hobby, so it should be enjoyed. And I think that’s the main thing to remember. Even if its the challenge you enjoy, as long as you’re having fun, then who cares how often you run your DL form through your head while you’re waiting in traffic! lol! I mean, you could have worse hobbies - you could be a hoarder or a taxedermist
of humans.

But yeah, believe me, my guy is always breaking my balls with “the gym again?” or some shit like that. eye roll But I just say, hey, its 2 hours of my day that I take for myself. The rest I devote to everyone and everything else. I can have that much, right?

Anyways, balance in life is key! I don’t have to tell you this. In the pie chart of Up’s life, lifting and everything associated to it, is just another sliver in all the great and many accomplishments you have! Enjoy them all!

And my last piece of rambling advice in terms of the lifting is that you just need to know when to let you freak flag fly, and when to hoist it down. lol! Hope that helps. HAH!

/pep talk

puts hands in circle Go Up!

ps. If it makes you feel any better, I’m totally NOT a form nazi. Lol! Half my lifts are totally whatever. But I don’t give a sh*t! Shh
don’t tell the others! hee hee hee

pps. Have a great holiday, girlie! xox

Mashy sigh Yes, I realize all this. The thing is, I feel like when my life is a little scrambled
I WANT to lift more, or work harder. I know lots say they like that their spouse/loved one has “different”
hobbies, but for me, it makes it more difficult. Like you stated before, its not exactly a female hobby to begin with.

Which is KRAY_ZEE cause I am not a Raging Nagging Bitch (OK sometimes I nag) but seriously, training
keeps me calm. Most of the women I know, hate their bodies, and frickin bitch about everything. That would drive me more nuts then taken off to the gym, or going down in basement and getting rid of some DNA.

But yea, I guess I need to not get so wrapped around form, cause I do really love it, and it is super fun for me.

Thanks for the pep talk, gorgeous!

Up

  • I love how you like the rest of us -
all want to get better training and results
and will do the work needed

My wife isnt exaclty thrilled about my training
or that I spend time researching it
or logging or hours on Pubmed or other related sites

she does know that the time I spend does keep me happier-
and certainly on a hormonal level much more even keeled

she thinks Im kind of obsessed about it-
and Im always like-
I did do it for x number of years for 35 hours a week for ‘school’
so its kinda programmed in

just know its not just you.

ps your voice is very cute

I agree with KMC. I have been hitting the gym twice a day for six months and my wife has been a saint. She is however a gym rat herself (We got married in the squat rack, lol) so I do have it allot better than those who are married to spouses who don’t get “It”. Even she will get a little annoyed when I refuse to break my eating plan even at family functions.

Your squats look good! a power lifting squat is different than a BB squat. I agree with German that the bar position should be lower, shoulder blades together and down and bar sitting on that shelf you create when you do it. On the knee thing, It helped me to practice sitting back with no weight and facing a wall.

My knees couldn’t go forward or they would hit the wall, had to sit back. I would do a couple sets as a warm up to squatting to reinforce the sitting back mentality. Also you can practice all during the day. Sounds crazy but even at work or eating dinner I would make an effort to lower myself to the chair by sitting back and keeping my arch tight, feet spread to squatting width. I got allot of strange looks
LMAO

I agree, Your voice, very cute!

Yep. It’s the dieting, not the lifting per se, that drives my wife nuts.

KMC yea, he says its not the actual training part
then you log then you watch it over and over and
then you talk it about it endlessly. Yess I do
and? haha Ill be glad for warmer weather cause then
he will at least join me for running and trail rides.

Colin yea I was doing the wall thing and I normally put the bar lower, but I guess the last thing i
was thinking was that. I have much practice ahead of me. Ill start with the knees, ill chalk out my spot and band in front of me. My glut/ham tie in is still weak. The good news is my legs are good and sore (not overly)
Keeping my chest up/staying a little more upright theres a long list, lol

EyeDentist Eh, he doesnt care as much about the diet, I do the cooking so I usually eat with the family
but have a slightly different variation of the meal. Like yesterday everyone had pizza, I had my own meal.
This summer will be tuff, this is a big beer drinking place, that may have to be my “treat meal”.

OK my food is getting tightened up. I barely fit in any clothes. I cant tell if im getting “muffin top” 2nd pic, or if its just my jeans are too tight. Ill choose to think the later.lol

I think just for sanity reasons, i need to know i can lean up a bit without losing too much muscle and or strength. I think Ill skip the little of this and that.
I really want to find a pic of me a couple years ago just to compare the changes is my figure.

and

I don’t think there is any muffin top going on.

My wife used to get upset with my training. Now for the last 1.5 year she has been back at it with a vengance, and has no problem with what I do.

OK, Ill take your word for it
Thats great on the wife, too bad she didnt log.Does she compete too?

I know tons to change
I will get there!!

Gosh, you look great. I wouldn’t lose a pound if I were you.

I am so fortunate that my husband is so supportive of my lifting/competing. He’s very proud of my physique and strength.

You’ll be fine. You have Superman as your coach. (which makes you a fly girl, heh)

The top is the only part of the muffin I’ll eat, speaking gastronomically, not anatomically, of course.
