Alot of what we are trying to do here requires the right attitude. If this has to be explained to you then you will probably never get it. The ones who succeed always are the ones who know they will or have always known they would. You hear that all the time from successful athletes. Two years ago i started training this guy who weighed 165 at 6 foot when he started school. After one year in college he got up to 175. He thought he was always gonna be a skinny guy. Well after three months of consistent training by me and eating good food, he got up to 191. He finally believed that he could gain some weight and he did. Im so tired of hearing people say they cant do this or they cant do that. Whether this is true or not, you are right. Youve already conceded defeat. If i fail its not because i cant, but because i didnt prepare enough or i did something wrong. Yall gotta get your heads right. All this i cant gain weight, cant get strong, cant do this, cant do that, blah, blah, blah has got to go. Some of you need to realize that there are women who are stronger than you. Hell there are women who are stronger than me. Its time to get to work.
cheers!
a money post.
damn right goldberg!!
Goldberg = correct
Sounds like me when people tell me they “can’t” do this or that. I always say, “You’re right. Not with that attitude.” Not quite the consolation they were probably looking for, but it’s true.
Goldie, you sure know how to take the pulpit.
(btw, your post to the “Mistakes” thread in the Pound was a crack up)
I like the way this guy thinks.
You got that right. By giving less than 100% at anything be it training, nutrition, what have you, you are not hurting anyone but yourself. No one else is going to care if you dont succeeed. “Self Motivation”
believe that
Yep, Attitude will get you where you are going.
There were a couple of gals in my gym that wanted to start training with me…and one of them said…I will never be able to lift that much or come every day the way you do…I told her she was right…and the minute you say or think you can’t you are done for. I don’t have time for half ass thinking in my life. You either want it and are willing to do whatever to achieve it or stay home!
I am going to lift more weight next week than I am this week. I am going to follow my eating plan, get my rest and have fun doing it. I feel sorry for those that won’t be able to.
Right on. I know just as many skinny waifs as overweight peeps who make excuses. “My metabolism is too high” or “I’d rather be cut than muscular (?)” or “you don’t understand, I can’t put on weight no matter how much I eat.” Between working at GNC and my bro’s newbie friends, I have heard them all. Whenever they ask me for advice, they want to argue with me because my answer is not straight out of Men’s Health, such as how to do a full body workout with a can of soup (actually saw that one). Lately, my answer has just been “t-nation.com” or “massive eating.”
Fuckin a man, good post
HooRah - No Weak ass excuses, Just weak ass people.
This is your ass, this is Goldberg, this is Goldberg kicking your ass, any questions?
Makes sense.
Landon, I believe the proper term is, “Bleedat”.
Isn’t this a concept from the old, old days of strongmen? Anyone who has accomplished anything is right there with you Goldberg. Even in Bill Pearl’s “Keys to the Inner Universe” he says you have to have the right attitude as well as training, eating, etc. Have people forgotten that? I know at one point I thought I had a genetically inferior upper back. A former bodybuilder told me to take my shirt off and he’d judge for himself. He then took 15 minutes looking at all the fibers in my traps, lats, rear delts, rhomboids and finally said that I had a huge back when I didn’t. He said I had more there than I thought. I took it and ran with it and now it’s quite possibly the best and strongest part of my physique. All of you “I’m skinny I can’t gain” or “I’ll never be less than 24 % BF” people need a kick in the ass. Goldie is right. It’s all in your head. Training and eating right begins and ends inside your heart and mind. If you’ve got the will, you’ll have everything else you want with time.
Geez, the server for this mag needs a attitude adjustment; been takin’ me forever to get on HERE.
Okay, I believe I’m one of the smaller forum members; in terms of just plain bodysize. However, I’ve never allowed that to get in the way of my goals.
I see so many who do here. Yes, it’s good to have solid footing of reality; but c’mon, once you set any type of mental limitations - I doubt goals will ever be achieved.
I believe in actions; pushing the envelope in seein’ how far I can go; and laughing maniacally in the face of those who say I can’t.
Yeah, Goldie: Fuckin’ Aye.
Yeah, but do those strong women eat uncooked oatmeal or not?
Attitude, and learning.
Things I always find myself saying…
To people complaining about others or me:
“Don’t worry about THEIR or MY workout, only worry about YOURS.”
To the 20 set for bicep guys that don’t grow that ask me about my workout:
“My workout is simple:
Come in.
Put out.
Go home.
If you can do a full 20 sets, you’re probably not really putting out enough on the 1st 15 sets.”
And a priceless one from a 50 y/o benching 405, squatting 450, and deadlifting 500, to a wide eyed younger BB type who asked him how he got so strong (OK so it might have been me!):
Motioning him in close and whispering like it’s a secret…
“OK, keep this quiet, I don’t want this getting out. Here’s what I do… Load some weight on the bar, lift it… Then next workout, put a little more on, than lift that… Again next workout, add a bit more and lift that… You getting the picture yet?”
fo’ shizzle.
Zev, I think not. Thanks.
