word.
amen
Zev, I think its “beleedat”, but enough semantics
attitude, 'tude, whatever you call it- Goldberg, (in best Phil Hartman voice)you are correct sir.
Other day there was a women who had lost BOTH of her legs from the knee down in the gym givin’ it.
Forgot all about any piddly shit I was worryin about.
“It’s the ‘hatitude’.”
“The what?”
“The ‘hatitude’.”
What movie is that from?
And Goldberg is right.
Goldberg has lectured me a couple of times on this topic. I think I said something along the lines of “if your diet & nutrition are dialed in, what does attitude have to do with anything?” I guess I don’t understand.
Also, if you keep failing to acheive your goals, it’s hard to keep a positive attitude!
Lance Armstrong-“If you have to ask, then you wouldnt understand.”
There is no fail. There is only achievement. If you do not reach your goals, you have yet to achieve. Constantly plan your goals so they are attainable, but hard to get to. There is no fail.
Theres a point where your body and you mind say that maybe you cant do it. Ive been a victim of this before. I sometimes give up too soon on a lift. But this is where heart comes in. If anybody has ever seen my meet deadlift video thats what happened there. 555 was very hard. I knew in my head that i probably wasnt going to get it but i told myself that i was gonna hold on and pull until i either passed out, died, or missed it. Thats attitude. Its going when you cant go. Not giving up just because it hard. If you can do more in a session, why didnt you? Why leave it for next time?
I agree 100%.
heh, u speak truthful words goldberg. I had a problem in rugby for a while, since I was always the skinniest guy on the field, and I used to tell myself I shouldn’t be out there, these guys are big and are gonna kick my ass!! Needless to say when I realized how ABSOLUTELY SHIT I was playing, I gave my self a hard look. Since then everytime I step on the grass I pray that my opponents have health insurance, cos nothing, and I mean nothing is gonna stop me from beating you into the ground. Needless to say my opponents started backing off after several body hurtling tackles ![]()
Same theory applies to everything you do, get your head into it. Your body knows what to do, make sure your mind is on the same page.
So, if I don’t get it, does that mean I’m screwed?
True. It’s also about being intelligent in problem solving and eliminating excuses. Why am I not making progress? Then fix it. Something I have been busy doing. I think my old environment was hindering my progress. Back to training soon. Need to gain some weight back…and then some. ![]()
Giddyup (kramer’s voice) Goldberg good stuff.
I’m gonna be big and strong, and nothing is going to stop me, BEOTCH!
It’s all about attitude.
Dude.
Goldberg’s correction of my quote of Yoda:
“Try not. Do. or do not. there is no try.”
That’s part of the attitude. In any challenge situation, be it a fight, lifting a heavy weight, or finding your abs, you have complete control of your attitude. It’s you or your opponent. You make the decision, then do what must be done.
Letting go of all the minutia related to training and nutrition and re-focusing on my attitude and my goals has made all the difference in the past six months or so.
It’ll click one day, Jeff Rage.
Jeff,
you need to work on your mind-muscle connection. When doing my lateral raises I focus on how I want my delts to look. When doing a fly, I picture in my mind the striations I want in my chest. That whole What the mind can concieve, the body can achieve stuff.
You aren’t screwed, you just need to focus on what things you can still change in order to reach those goals…have you decided on what they are? I know you have been battling in your mind the cycling vs the lifting…do you think this has anything to do with you not achieving those goals yet?
Personally i dont understand how somebody can not get it. You just do it. Like Nike says. Maybe its just the competitive bastard in side of me. Im trying really hard to “understand” how other people “feel”. I understand that some people think i dont do that very well.
I know many of you guys read alot so I’d like to recomend a book for you:
Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill
While the book is focused around ataining financial goals the philosophy is essentially identical to what you guys are describing for fitness goals.
Hill also gives a great set of instructions for training your mind as well.
5 stars!

This is the reason why I lift alone, too many people cut corners and give up easily. In fact, at my home gym I have seen ONE guy all summer do a deadlift, and my school gym is just plain pathetic. Its overrun with tall skinny pretty boys who do 10 sets of precher curls, hit up the ab bench and talk to the girlies running in their abercrombie shorts. Fuckin sickening
