Atlas Shrugged; I Pressed
gorillavanilla wrote:
I’ve missed a lot but have you been off from lifting for 10 days? It’s nice to feel the power of a shotgun.
Nope…haven’t skipped my workouts. I did miss two Sundays in a row, because of being out out town for work. Still got in the Wednesdays and Saturdays…and got back on track last week.
Just nothing of note to post.

I guess I could mention that, last Saturday, I did some “overloads” on MP. Or , at least, that’s what I call them.
Put 280# on the bar, then 300# and, lastly, 315#. Just unracked the weight and pressed it off the bottom to about eye level. Used it kind of like a walkout on squats, but with a little range of motion. After doing that with 315#, I find it hard to believe that I pressed that two years ago.

Also, did leg press, on Sunday, for the first time in a few months. Left leg is still bothering me. But I have been working hard to massage out whatever is causing the pain. Only went up to 620#.

I’ll be back at it this afternoon.

Hoping to go duck hunting again the weekend after next. If we make it, I am taking my youngest this time. He isn’t thrilled about not getting to take a gun. But, at 9, with other folks going as well, and him never having shot a shotgun…safety first.

I do have an old .410, that belonged to my grandfather. I think I will take him out to the range and try that out.
If I can find a place on this side of the border, to take him, I might let him take it, so I can keep a close eye on him and not worry as much about where everyone else is in relation to him. He is pretty good about muzzle awareness, though.

Just so everyone knows that I am still attending the gym…

Speed MP
barx10
95x10
135x10
150x3x5 - these were pretty doggone fast

DB Incline Press
60x8
80x8
100x8 - had to get someone to hand me the 2nd 100# DB
– Probably could have gotten 120x8, but I couldn’t comfortably/safely clean the 100’s. Didn’t want to ask for help again.

1-Arm Standing DB Press
70x5
80x5

Face Pulls - alternating palms inside and palms outside
100x10x5

BB Shrugs
315x15
405x10x2 - 10 second hold on the last rep.

Good to see you’re still at it. No news on Lexie . . .

a workout was posted… the world has returned to normal !!! haha

Lexie has bailed on me. Once she got in to school, she decided not to go on Wednesday’s, because she was focused on school and “stressed”. Then she would do one or two resistance exercises, on the weekend, before abandoning me to cardio devices. (Talk about a slap in the face!) Now, she just doesn’t go.
I can’t say that it was completely unexpected. What I can’t get is this generations definition of “stress”. You would think that she and her youngest brother have horrible lives, with insufficient food, clothing and shelter. That everyone hates them and life has no point.
I guess it is good for them that Mom has experience in these things. My solution is “spit on it/suck it up” and let’s go. Oh well…

I don’t know if things are normal, per se. Unless this is the new normal. I do prefer consistency, though. It helps keep ME sane.

My boys say and act the same way your kids do. They have it to good.

I have so much to look forward to when my girls make it to teenage years, thanks for heads up.

Yeah…Lexie is a mish-mash of hormones. Everything can be fine and then the world is ending. It is trying, to say the least. Thank God that Mom is here to run interference.
The good thing is that Lexie is a good kid/teen…great heart…and despite her and truth being sometimes estranged, I can’t really complain.

Hello, Mrs. Strick, can Little Strick come out and play?

Apparently not…

Still lifting, except for lastnight. Just nothing of note to log.
I went in to lift yesterday evening. Got in…got through 3 of my 4 warm-up sets. The power went off for a couple of seconds.
We were having some pretty good storms blow through…heavy rain and high winds.

Apparently, it freaked out the woman in charge of the place. She made everyone get out of the weight room, gym and pool and either leave, go to the locker rooms or get in the halls.

We were under a tornado watch. Mind you, despite the fact that she kept saying that a tornado was on the ground, in town, there wasn’t one. None of the news channels, nor the NWS, had said anything about a tornado. The local channels weren’t even doing the weather live. They said it was “no big deal”.
This was about 6:10 - 6:15.
At 6:45, after her being asked when we could get back in and her saying there was a watch and a tornado on the ground…again, not true…I just gave up and went home.

Safety first, of course. As a father and an ex-cop, I appreciate that. Overreaction and stupidity? They need someone else in charge in the evening.
There was no tornado. The weather guy said it was no big deal. You could clearly see, on the radar, that the front had passed us. Not to mention, you could hear when the front passed. It went from torrential downpour and high winds (strong breeze back in OK) to virtually no wind and a light drizzle.

Maybe I am jaded because I lived in OK, but tornado watches aren’t really important to me. Even tornadoes, unless they are heading directly towards me and at least within a mile or two.

I ended up coming home and just doing 75 push-ups, with my feet up on a table, broken over a few sets.

You’d think if she was that worried she would have just shut the gym down.

She seemed a bit overwhelmed. My guess is that she didn’t want to force people out into it. If something had happened, and she had told everyone to leave…too much threat of litigation in the world.

I was just frustrated because it was obviously not as bad as she thought it was. And my old ass has to stick to a pretty regular schedule or I don’t seem to recover fully. Since Saturday is my heavy press day, I want two days recovery going into it.
Had it been Sunday, with Wednesday being more accessory, it wouldn’t have been as big of a deal.

I am just getting cranky as I get older.
I told my wife that, had there been an actual tornado, I would have gone to the locker room. Since there wasn’t, I just wanted to lift. If the damned window broke and plate glass cut me in two, just put, “He was a dumbass” on my head stone.

That said, I do understand why they do stuff like that. The safety stuff, not the slanderous headstones.

Liability is a real bitch.

Great tornado story.

I didn’t know you were an ex-cop.

And I can relate to the trying times of having a hormonal teenage girl. Hang in there!

Happy Thanksgiving

Yes Ma’am. For just over 4 years, back when I was a young feller.

Lexie is definitely a roller coaster! But, I have gotten back in the gym with me a few times. She got 95# for 2 sets of 5, the weekend before last.
If she could just get excited about something…

Sorry for the very belated response.

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving…

Just a quick update to let everyone know that I am still kicking.

I have upped the incline on my DB presses to about 60-65 degrees. I got tired of having to ask folks to hand me the 2nd DB. So, upping the incline made the exercise harder and I can actually clean the DBs myself for this degree of incline.
I think that I am going to continue with the Incline DB press, through the end of the year. Then I might add Bench back it. just can’t decide if I want to do traditional or CGB.

Still working the Leg Presses for reps…doing sets of 15 up to 730#. IT Band is still hurting like hell, though.

Have tripled 255#, on MP, each of the past 3 weeks…and doubled 260#. I haven’t tried more than 265#, which went up.

Aside from that, I am just making sure to get to the gym and get the work done. Oh…and trying to survive the holidays.

Not much going on. Just wanted to throw out a couple of notables.

260x3 - for a +1 PR on MP, since returning

Tonight…
285x1 - for a +10# PR on MP, since returning
290x1 - +15# PR - Strong rep. Likely had 295# on this one.
225x8 - finisher for either a +1 or +2 rep PR, since returning

MP is back up over bodyweight.

Gonna change up my workout a bit, after Christmas. Nothing drastic, just more reps, get bench back in and try to scale back on the pure strength workouts.
