Atlas Shrugged; I Pressed

Good to see you posting some threads but whats up with Mr Strick?

Not a whole lot. Work, raising kids, still trying to help Mrs. Strick break this headache that has been going on since last May. On top of that, her back has started hurting again.
Finally canned our tomatoes from last year. Cooked them down into sauce and still got 31 pints from it. Off just three plants! And, yes, they had been in the freezer since being picked.

As far as working out, I am still doing three days a week…Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday. I benched for the first time in months, today. But only played with it right before heading out the door.
My Military Press is back up to 300#. I hit that last Wednesday. I have managed to double 280#. Can’t quite get that 3rd rep locked out.

Starting to get a bit of Spring fever. But I have to remind myself that this is not Oklahoma and I have to be patient. Also really itching to get in a house. But again, I have to be patient…too many medical bills.

It’s all good. Besides, complaining won’t fix anything…

Sorry your wife is feeling so poorly. Any idea what is giving her the head ache? As always your MP is much higher than mine (damn you). I bet that sauce is going to be great. I feel your pain about Spring fever.

That’s a great, stong MP, 300 lbs is no joke. Hope you wife’s headache goes away. That is one heck of a yield from your tomato plants, amazing I’d say. Thinking about growing some tomatoes with my daughter in our back yard.

Steve, it started when she got an eye exam. When that bright light went in her eye, her head about exploded. She hasn’t been able to break the cycle since. We are doing everything we can to make it break, though.

Used some of the sauce last night. Home grown tomatoes are so much more intense/rich tasting. Definitely good.

GV, definitely grow the tomatoes. It is fun to watch them go. My daughter likes to get out there with me, whenever gardening, picking berries or processing stuff. Good times!

It felt good to get back too 300#. It will feel better to get back to 315# and, hopefully, a little beyond.
That said, I should probably be concerned about the fact that I can MP 300# and very seriously doubt that I could bench 350#. I haven’t tried more than 320# since last summer.

Sorry to hear about your wife. Hopefully her health issues get resolved soon.

Back to 300 MP as expected. As far as bench I’m sure you could get over 400 rather quickly if you focused on it.

Thanks DB. I think we might have found an OTC supplement that is helping…Migravent. She seems to be doing a little better. Only time will tell, but we are rapidly approaching a year with this.

I am thinking of adding back in some benching, to see if it will help push my MP back up to 315#. I think my triceps are holding it down just a bit, and bench seemed to hit them pretty good.
Once I get back to 315#, I will start focusing a little more on bench numbers.

Narrow grip bench for the MP. With your MP you could probably work up a pretty good bench if you did it regular.

Harry,
Not sure what width you consider “narrow”. I did bench today, using the same grip as my MP (hands 1/4 - 3/8" in side the rings). Worked up to 315x3. I would have been lucky to hit 4, but wasn’t going to try without a spotter.
Dropped down and did 265x5x4, with varying grips.

Wednesday, I felt like hell. Got 280x2.5 again, on my top set. Followed it with a single at 280. Looking forward to getting the x3. 290x3 is my best triple ever, back in 2013. Really want to blow past that and top 315 on 1RM.
Still shooting for my birthday…end of May.

Bi-monthly check-in…

Finally tripled 275#, on MP, last Wednesday.

Then, on Saturday, decided to try an actual bench workout, for the first time since last summer, I think.

335x1 - 15# more than I have tried to bench in 2.5 years
350x1 - had another, but didn’t risk it with only my daughter as a spotter. Felt like I had another 15-20# in there.
225x10 - normal bench grip
225x10 - MP grip

Other than that, just keeping on. Waiting for a day when it feels like the stars are aligned to try for a 315# MP. Might be the next century, though.

That’s a bunch of great pressing. You’ll be OHP 315 over your head soon with ease.

Looking strong Skip. You haven’t benched in months and you’re still pressing 350.

three fiddy for the win…oh, and I checked…it’s ok if you post a little more often…the rumors that it robs your MP strength were greatly exaggerated!

Thanks all. Not where I was, but getting closer.

MP day was kind of rough last week. Of course, I took off most of the week. So, I was lifting way earlier than normal and had a very short window.

Worked up to 280x1x2

On Saturdays bench, I had no spotter.
Worked up to 315x5 (at least a couple in the tank), 335x2 (scared to try another without a spotter), back down to 315 with MP grip for 315x3x2.
Gym was closed for Easter.

Not sure my pecs are happy that I have started benching again. They are a bit whiny.

Learned a valuable lesson, yesterday. Do not go to the chiro before working out. Went to the chiro at lunch, yesterday, and felt too loose and twingy when I hit the gym. Not a bad workout, just didn’t feel quite right.

Felt really beat up afterwards. I still think it was having seen the chiro. Just didn’t feel tight and had some slight discomfort in my left shoulder and arm, going into the gym.

Had to do a quick one today. I was clearing debris, still, this morning and have plans for the evening.

There’s a ton of great overhead pressing and benching going on here.

Thanks GV. Just trying to keep my momentum until the next uptick happens. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
