Atlas Shrugged; I Pressed

Good work all around by Team Strick … Nice triple, my guess is you pick up momentum and start closing the gap on 12 reps .

I sure hope so. It was nice to see forward movement, if only a baby step.
I think getting my eating down will help a little. As long as I am losing weight, I don’t expect to make any great leaps forward. But, If I can zero that in on the 1# a week mark, while grouping calories around workouts, I think I can see some progress.

Friday morning official weigh-in…down 32.2#.
Down 2.8# from last week.
I am not sure that I am ever gonna get this dialed in.

That’s a bunch of weight lost. Sometime you plateau and have to find a kicker to bounce to the next level but great going so far.

Thanks GV. Only 15# to goal #1. But, I have decided to take a break from the focused diet (sugar excluded) when my Dad get’s here…7/18. Since I am less than 5# from where I was when I stopped lifting, I should be back around that when he gets here. Of course, my belt is actually a tad looser than it was when I stopped. So, I might even be a bit leaner than before. If you can call 290# lean…lol.

Today’s “workout”. Spent 2 hours picking black raspberries. I have been told that the folks here call them “black caps”. That makes sense, since they are about as big as the end of one of my blackberries from OK. It takes 4 or 5 of these to equal one of those. We have gathered somewhere between 1 and 1.25 gallons, so far. And, yes, I could go buy them. I like picking them…mosquitoes, thorns, splinters and scratches up and down my legs and arms be damned.

Then…kind of farmer walks…carry dumbbells from my brother’s basement, up the stairs, and 40 or so paces to my vehicle. Once home, carrying them the 30 or so paces from the van to the shed. 30’s, 35’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and 65’s…
Oh, and according to my FitBit, I have walked 4 miles today. That isn’t a whole lot, but at 290# it has to count for something.

Gotta get into the gym earlier tomorrow. The Y is only open from 6 - 12.

black caps - are kind of like black raspberries while Black Berries are like GIANT

either way picking berries is a good time.

training looking good- and down 32lbs is good work

Thanks Kev. Doing what I can in the gym and weight loss. Living right with the berry pickin’…

Military Day

Got to the Y in time to get the whole workout in before they closed. Lexie had another good workout. I can actually see her focusing, when doing bench and MP. Her form continues to tighten. There is definitely hope here.
I had a light bulb come on, while messing with MP. I have been noticing that the bar sits lower, since I started back. I assumed it had something to do with where my body weight is and levers. I was wrong. I spotted it today and was able to correct.
When I MP, I pull my shoulder blades back…to set my back for the press. I had forgotten, somehow, that I pull my elbows in (arms into my chest) when I go under it to unrack. And I work to keep my arms tucked (elbows hugged into my side) during the set. That is why the bar sits at about chin level, instead of lower. It was a great realization and I started implementing it again today.

Military Press
barx20 (10 front and 10 back)
95x10
135x10
165x5
195x3
225x5x3 - got fuzzy on the 4th rep of every set. Paused before the fifth. Thrilled to get 3 sets of 5, though. It wasn’t helping that the bar was slightly bent and kept trying to roll on my hands.

BB Shrugs
315x15
405x10x2 - 3 sec hold on last 3 reps of each set
455x10 - 12 second hold on last rep

Lat Pulls
150x10
170x10x2
110x15

DB Laterals
35x10x4 - someone was using the 40’s

Rev. Flyes
45x10
45x8
35x10

Lexie’s Workout

Bench
45x10
65x5
75x5x3 - +5# from last workout but got all 3 sets at the weight…last workout got 2 at 70# before going down

Military Press
45x10
55x5x3

Lat Pulls
50x10x3

Seated Rows
70x10x4

All around decent workout, for both of us. I feel like I am still banging against a barrier, on the MP, but it feels like it is starting to crack. Lexie’s form continues to improve, as does her focus. And, most importantly, she is still having fun.

Misc. Day

Worked out Bi’s, Tri’s and legs today. IT Band is still playing heck. So, no leg press.
Also, did two hours of Black Cap pickin’ with my brother. I look like I got into a fight with a bobcat…and lost. Can’t tell if my ripped up legs hurt worse or my dozens of skeeter bites.

That was it…

Unofficial weigh-in, this morning…down 33.4# That puts me under 290# for the first time in about 19 months.

I attribute it to blood loss, from briars and skeeters, yesterday.

Bench Day

Lexie didn’t go with me today. Jennifer is getting a med infusion and Lexie had to watch the boys. So, I will take her tomorrow and just play coach.
Also, I screwed my workout, unintentionally. I decided to try workout fuel. I can see how it might work for some, but it sent me down the tubes. I was jittery, like I had too much caffeine. At the same time, I had mild shakes, like when blood sugar goes too low. Every set I did, I would just run out of gas all of the sudden. And when I did, a strong rep could just fall apart.
Lesson learned…

Bench
barx15
95x10
135x10
185x5
225x5
255x3
285x3
315x2.5 - 3rd rep was going up fine and then BAM! Barely got it back on the lower rack.
315x1 - nothing to give

Face Pulls
160x12x2
175x12x3

Military Press - really noticed the energy issues here
165x10x3 - Every set, about 6 reps in, the bottom would nearly fall out. It was everything I could d to get 10.

DB Bent Rows
120x12x3

Seated Machine Rows
150x12x2

Machine Bench
110x15x2 - This was a weird machine. 110# felt like a truck.

No more workout fuel for me.

How does your small frame handle that weight?

Not sure it would sell…unless someone was really in a crunch to make weight. Niche market… But folks have gotten rich off of that.
Come to think of it, given some of the things that people try for training and weight loss, it might just sell.

It doesn’t. Ever seen Jaba the hut? Yeah…I am a slimmer version. The floor handles the weight.

Lexie’s Workout

She did bench, seated rows, military press and lat pulls. It was a make up day and I just kind of let her run with it. We played with various hand placement on the bench and found a new grip for her. It definitely seems to suit her better. We also narrowed her grip in MP, which helped with staying tight.

Bench
45x10
60x5
70x3
80x1
90x1
95x1 - nice PR
55x8

Seated Row Machine
40x10
45x10
50x10

Military Press
barx5x4

Lat Pulls
40x10x3

Got out of dodge…

The 95# was strong. She probably had 100# in her right now, but no need to rush. Although, I am secretly relishing the idea of her being able to put 45’s on each side an do it. That will make some testicles shrivel…lol.
With all of this being so new, her form improving constantly and the strength she is gaining just from finally using these muscles, it is only a matter of time.

Geepers Strick, if Lexie keeps this up she will pass you in no time!!!

and at my age , the testicle comment isn’t funny ( hahaha)

Have a good weekend and stay away from the briars and mosquitos: I don’t think you can afford anymore weight loss.

Official weigh-in…down 33.8#
Weight loss was a little slower the latter half of the week. Jennifer was in the hospital for three days, getting the med infusion, so eating was wonky. Hell, life was wonky. And my daughter likes to try to bake, when stressed. She was 1 for 3, but that one was some damned good, if not thin and pancake-like, chocolate chip cookies.

One more week and then I am off while my Dad is here. I am at 289.0#. I would like to be no more than 289.8# when he leaves.

Paul, she is really doing well. She is getting more focused during the sets. She still really has no plan, though. She doesn’t have any goals. She just goes and lifts because I do and she likes doing things with me.

I am really hopeful, and am encouraging her, to find a goal (or goals) and work towards it. That always helps.
Part of her is afraid to set goals, though, because that puts pressure on her. But once she hits one or two, it should get better.
