Atlas Shrugged; I Pressed

be careful, a strong breeze might knock you over!

Lol…not likely. I am still about 5-8# heavier than when I stopped working out, but my old belt fits again and is, actually, a tad looser than when I stopped working out. More muscle? Or maybe just losing fat all from the midsection.

Correction, an Oklahoma breeze might knock me over. You know, a nice, light 70 mph breeze. Here in Iowa, though, a breeze is exactly what you think.

Lexie pretty strong.

She is stronger than the weights show. She is also very awkward, though…and that is limiting her right now.
She just needs time to learn the movements. She spends as much energy trying to do it right as trying to move the weight.

Not that it is unexpected…or even a big deal. She is having fun and getting exercise. So, it is a win-win.

Military Press

Another Daddy/Daughter workout. I had Lexie work sets of 5 on MP and Bench. I fought with MP and am still struggling with explosiveness, once I get past a certain weight.

Military Press
barx15
95x10
135x10
165x5
185x3
205x3
225x5 - first time I have manged 5 at this weight since getting back…pushed through on the last rep and it was a grinder
235x2 - gassed
235x1

BB Shrugs
315x15
405x10 - 3 sec hold on the last 3 reps of each set
405x15 - 2 second hold on the last 5 reps

Lat Pulls
150x10
170x10x2
130x12

Rev. Flyes/Rear Delt Raises
40x10
45x10x2
35x12

DB Laterals
35x10x3

Lexie’s Workout

Military Press
Barx5
55x5
60x5
60x3 - completely lost it after rep 3, bar was WAY out front
55x5

She kept trying to watch the damned bar…lol. So, the bar would start moving up and she would turn her head to the left and watch the plates move up. I told her to look forward and watch the bar. So, she tried to watch it…the bar itself. Once I explained to watch it in the mirror, it helped. I also tried the “feel the bar”. Yes, your eyes are open, but you aren’t really looking at anything. You are feeling the bar and the movement. Become one with the bar! She wasn’t amused…

Bench
Barx5
55x5
60x5x3

Assisted Pull-ups
80x10x3

Lat Pulls
50x10x3

Played with 5# DBs on an incline bench while I did Rev. Flyes and Laterals.

Then we went out to eat. There is an Asian buffet that she likes. So, we went there. Of course, there is only really one dish that she likes…Broccoli Chicken. So, she had two plates of that. No rice…no egg rolls…just Broccoli Chicken.
After which, I drug her to a park and we collected Mulberries and Black Raspberries. Not a lot of them, but enough to get the season started.

And, yes, both of us have purple hands.

Damn, you aint got that 300 yet? You lookin good in the vid, though.

LOL…yeah, I got the 300#. And then 315#. But I got a nagging injury late in 2013 and started backing off a bit. Then we started talking about moving and I ended up disassembling my power rack and home gym, to get some repairs done to the workout room and get it ready for market. I didn’t lift again for 18 months.
So, I am trying to regain what I lost while losing weight. Not a good mix.
MP is back up to 260 and I am down 29.8#. I plan to stop trying to lose weight in about 15 more pounds and really start trying to push the numbers back north.

We did move, though… I am now up north, in enemy territory.

Harry’s comment took me down memory lane…which looks like all I’m going to have for a bit.

5-20-2012…300# MP

10-9-2013…315# MP

I ran across this too, which is pertinent to today’s workout.
11-6-2013…225x12

Today I had to gut out 5. Loooong way to get back.

Almost depressing. Nothing to do but keep working, though.

I am not sure you can call today’s happenings an actual workout. Lexie felt like crap and I wasn’t much better. Kind of went through the motions and went to an old standby…low weight for tons of reps.

Leg Curls
90x10
110x10
150x10x3

Leg Extentions
150x15
190x10
230x2 - IT Band started hurting. It has been hurting for weeks, to some degree. Decided that I wasn’t in the mood to play with it
150x15

Leg Press
260x25
440x20 - IT Band started acting up again

Tricep Pushdowns - V-Bar
50x100
100x50
100x25

Cable Curls - V-Bar
35x50
50x25x2

Seated Machine Row Thangy
110x20
130x15

Lexie

Leg Extensions
50x10x3

Leg Curls
30x10x4

Leg Press
170x10x2
260x5x2

Tricep Pushdowns
20x25
30x15

Cable Curls
15x25
25x15

She was acting wonky. Claiming to be really tired and dizzy. I told her that was because she was a 14 year old teenager and that we would cut it short. We grabbed quick bite to eat and headed home.
Once home, I climbed in bed with Mrs. Strick, who has been suffering with migraines for over two weeks (and the Drs. are useless). Next thing I know, I am waking up two hours later. Guess I needed it. Or maybe it was just may traps. They are raising a fuss over yesterday’s shrugs.

Daddy/Daughter workouts look awesome. a good workout to get your swole on.

Down 30# exactly, at this morning’s unofficial weigh-in. My goal says that I need to drop 17.4# more. Damn I am getting antsy, though.
I don’t mind the way I am eating, and definitely not losing weight, but the effect in the gym is driving me nuts!

Nice looking presses there and I’m digging the gym setup. I can’t wait to see the 300 X 3 white light lift in the coming days.

I am just looking forward to getting a place here and getting it set back up. As it is, all of my equipment is in our shed or in my brother’s basement.

Living on past glories…really looking forward to getting back up there.
300x3 would be awesome. But I want 315x3. It’s gonna be awhile, though.

As Crippler recently reminded me, its a marathon, not a sprint.

Ha, as a former coach I have a bunch of them. Another one I like to use is “hard work always pays off.” You’re on the right track.

That is so true. It is definitely a marathon. Just hard to see it that way at times. I have goals that I had set back before the layoff. Now I have to get back to where I was to even contemplate them.
I’ll just keep plugging away.

For now, though, i think I am going to keep my diet as it is, until my Dad comes out to visit…7/18. That’ll give me 2 1/2 more weeks and, in theory, have me at or just below what I weighed when I disappeared. There will be too much BBQ while he is here to count calories. I will still keep the sugar reined in, though. After having settled in at that weight, I will go back to trimming the remaining pounds I am targeting.

I would really like to settle in somewhere around 265#. But that is 28# more and having suffered the consequences of losing too much weight too fast, in the past, I don’t want to go there again.

Bench this afternoon. What I would pay for a good spotter!

Big Stick coming for a visit? How’s he doing? If memory serves me he was somewhere’s near my age. And good lookin, too.

Harry, he is the other Big Strick. GrandPa was the original. Pop isn’t, and never was, small either. He has a few years on you. He turned 65 in May.

He is getting along well. He, like the rest of the male Strick’s, needs to drop a few pounds. Still strong as a bull, though…and the grandkids love him to death.

Since we moved up here near my brother, he can visit all of us at the same time. Doubles the visits per year…

Bench Day

Lexie had a good day. Her form is starting to tighten up and I am able to get her to push herself a little bit. I would say it is by far her best workout yet.
I made a one-legged frog’s hop forward. It isn’t much, but it is progress.

Bench
barx15
95x10
135x10
185x5
225x5
255x3
285x3
305x3
315x3 - First time I have tripled this since getting back. Pretty sure I had #4, but only my daughter to spot me.
315x2 - Again, #3 should have gone, but couldn’t risk it.

Face Pulls
160x12x6

Military Press
155x10x3 - These were starting to be work on the last set. Next week, at 165#, should be interesting.

DB Rows
120x10x3

Glad to finally triple 315# again. A long way from 12, but I will take what I can get right now.

Lexie’s workout

Military Press
barx10
55x5
60x5x3 - All good reps. Last rep of the last set was a grinder.

Assisted Pullups
80x10
97x6x2
97x10 - She plays on this. She could have had 12 reps every set on these but has a hard time pushing it.

Bench
barx10
65x5
70x5x2 - Last rep was slow so dropped the weight.
65x5

Lat Pulls
50x10
70x5 - She bit off more than she could chew.
50x10

Face Pulls
25x10
40x10x2

Her bench and MP form are really starting to tighten up. Nowhere near flawless, but so much improved. I was so proud of her workout today. And, yes, I told her so.
