Atlas Shrugged; I Pressed

Legs and Arms

Well, apparently, not only was I feeling envious of Bulldogs numbers, but his injuries as well.
I am pretty sure I got a minor pull in my groin, right side, on the top set of leg press. It doesn’t feel like a tear, just something kind of shifted on one of the reps. Hurts like hell to go from sitting to standing, though.

That was it. My arms hurt like hell when I work then directly. Guess I need to do it more and push them harder…so they quit whining.

Hitting the Credit card twice in a day !1 good stuff… I trust Lady Strick and Miss Strick enjoyed the day…happy Birthday

my groin never hurts when I leg press 1003…go figure…oh wait , it could be because I can only press half that !! take it easy Big fella Rome wasn’t built in a day.

They say they had a good birthday. I have to trust them on that. Of course, my daughter sucks at hiding dissatisfaction…not sure if that is intentional or just her age.

No, Rome wasn’t built in a day. Of course, I got it for 10 reps. So, I can’t say that it is too much weight. It is definitely pushing what I can do for 10 reps, though. That said, I think ibuprofen is definitely in my future.

That last session looks like you may be working towards becoming a bodybuilder Mr. Strick!

lol…there is no effort that I could put forth that would ever get me there. Not without plastic surgery and gene splicing…and a change of attitude.

It was a lot of sets of 10. Right now, though, I am mainly working on building back some endurance. I fatigue way too quickly.

Every now and then I hit a mechanical limit, though. On the pushdowns, 220# is all that is on the machine, but the v-bar hurts my elbows less than the rope. I am about to run into the same problem on machine flyes.

On the bicep stuff, it doesn’t matter. I do it because I am supposed to. But my biceps haven’t gotten bigger (okay…maybe a little wider) or noticeably stronger in 25 years. My brother is the same way. Neither of us could buy a bicep peak.

Bodybuilder or not the weights you’re repping with are looking strong Skip.

1003x10 is almost always a typo, you should fix that before people get concerned. By the way the reason your biceps aren’t growing is that after that leg press stunt your body has decided to send all available mass to your legs and ass so that the weights don’t fold you up like an origami swan. You are putting forth too much effort, sit down, watch some spongebob, eat some cake. Excellent work.

Thanks Steve. Not back to “strong”, yet. Getting stronger, though. At least for three weeks back.

Pony…“sit down” - I am a network geek. I sit all friggin’ day. “Watch some”… - does X-files reruns and Scooby-Doo count? Got it covered. I actually passed on the cake. Sugar is my crack. One bite of cake and 15 minutes later I would have finished the ice cream, washed it down with a coke and changed my breakfast plan to chocolate covered sugar bombs. Heck, I have to get my wife to hide the ketchup from me, so I don’t drink it.
And, unfortunately, we all know that a 1000# leg press translates into only a 300-something# squat. It looks dang good on paper, though!

Good grief. We are in the process of closing on our house in OK. All the papers were overnighted to us, for us to sign and have notarized.
We sent them back yesterday…shipped 2 hours after they arrived. We were in a hurry because closing is tomorrow.
They got the papers today and the notary had flubbed them up.

So, they emailed me a copy of the papers we had already signed, with 10 or so pages where the notary had to re-notarize, properly. And had to get them shipped again, today. This has been a pain in the ass and very stressful. Especially since we have been trying to sell it for 6 1/2 months and everyday seems have a flood or a tornado somewhere around the house. My upper back and neck hurt from the tension. I will be sooooo glad to have this done!

Bench today. No brother to spot me or help with lift-offs. So, it should be interesting…

Bench Day

Observation #1…Not having a power rack or a spotter sucks! I left one, potentially two on each set, out of concern that, if it didn’t go up, I was SOL. I am either going to have to watch for a power rack or be more fluid on when my bench day is, so that my brother can be there. Damn I miss my power rack! It sucks not feeling like I can go for it and go into the set not worried about failure.

Every set felt like I had 1 or 2 more reps in me. It just wasn’t worth the risk.

1st time every doing these. Kind of awkward, but seemed to hit the right spot

That is it. As of this morning, down 15.6#. Since my wife talked me into a FitBit, and started me logging food, I have been at a caloric deficit everyday for the past two weeks. The scale seems to reflect that. Not sure what impact, if any, it is having on getting back to where I was.

Good work Big Man… nothing wrong with a rep or 2 held back…

Great news on the weight loss. I’ve been watching my intake as well. I know it needs to be done so we can live longer and look better and blah, blah, blah. But I prefer eating everything in sight.

Thanks Paul.

I like to go one short of failure. But, at least I got a few reps in. I just need a power rack…or a brother with a consistent schedule…lol.

I’m with you, Steve. I love eating.
Surprisingly, cutting back hasn’t been that hard. Once I got off the sugar, it was pretty easy.

Heck, I even saved enough calories to have a beer tonight, which I sorely need.

In reference to the house closing, a few posts up, Fedex lost the 2nd batch or papers that we sent. So, I had to scramble, today, with the buyers sitting in the office in OK, waiting to sign, to reprint the pages, go get them notarized (for a 3rd time), scan them, email them and then ship this batch as well.

The email got there in time. The damned house is sold. Finally!

CONGRATS ON THE HOUSE!!! that must be a HUGE relief ! A celebratory Power rack purchase is on the horizon!!

Thanks Paul. It is a HUGE relief.
Now…to payoff the med bills my wife accumulated over the past year and start looking for another. Of course, once we buy another we have to sell where we are living now. I am not sure it is ever going to end.

And I still have the power rack (my preciousssssss). It is just in pieces and in the shed. I do go pet the frame every now and again, though.
Just need a place to set it up…

Edit: Wanted to add that my official weigh-in was this morning. Down 18.0# since the beginning of May.
Happy to see it go, but if it keeps dropping like this, I am going to have to increase intake. I assume that it will slow down on its own, though.

Congrats on both the sale of the house and the weight loss Strick.

How does Fed Ex lose an overnight pack. I’ve used them a lot and thankfully never had that issue. Added stress you definitely don’t need on something that is a huge deal.

DB, I’m not sure. I can’t remember every having a problem with them before. It was definitely bad timing, though. My stress levels were at max.
Fortunately, I had enough calories in reserve, that I had a Shiner Bock, last night. Actually, I had enough to have two of them. But I just wanted to go to bed and forget the day…lol.

Now comes the inner struggle between wanting to get a house now and paying off some bills first. Since I have not seen anything on the market that is interesting, the market is helping me do the right thing.

Gonna have to tweak the diet a bit. I don’t think I am getting enough calories and definitely not enough protein.
Also, I REALLY need to eat before hitting the gym. I just run out of energy way too quick.

Post workout protein shake was the first food of the day.
I have been wearing this fitbit, that my wife got me. I’ve been adding in exercise, journaling my food, logging water intake, the whole bit. I have it set for a 750 calorie a day deficit…1 1/2# per week. It takes into account my body-weight, sex (gender, not frequency) and age. But it must be missing a lot of burned calories somewhere. I am down 4.8# from this time last week. But, according to the little digital brain, I should be down 1.5 - 2#.
In any case, I am going to reset it to a 500 calorie deficit and try to fill the new allowed calories as protein.
Hopefully that will help propel things forward.

Leg Press and Arms

Wasn’t feeling overly inspired this morning. I am not sure if it is because I slept for nearly 9 hours (guess I needed it), if I was tired from yesterday, if I am feeling the effects of the weight-loss or if it was because I knew that I wasn’t going to push leg press as hard. My…whatever I did to my groin…isn’t bothering me any more. But, I wanted to be a little more careful with it. I paid off and, actually, I think this might be my favorite leg press session yet.
