I didn’t realize how much the belt made me feel stable. I have no explosiveness off the bottom on the MPs.
I think the belt alone, if it ever gets here, will be enough to propel me back up to 250…just from feeling confident enough to explode upwards…and not “nursing” my back.
Another day at the gym. I am feeling the shoulder workout from yesterday…which is always good. Saw a …uh…not sure how to describe her genre…head shaved on one side, the rest mostly dyed red…great delt, pec and upper back development. Not big, but I am sure that is not what she was going for. While there I saw her do OHP in the smith, forward plate raises, face pulls, cable laterals and rear delt work on the cables and a machine. She put the rest of the folks to shame. She obviously has a plan…and it is working.
Anyway…to my paltry workout.

That was it…and I was sucking wind. I am sure the back to back days aren’t, and are, helping. The calorie deficit probably isn’t helping things. But it is moving north…that is what matters.

Come on slacker… get back to using some man weight if your small frame can hack it!!! ;-)
Bulldog, it feels like a small frame right now. My quads are killing me! And unracking 315, last week, felt like 385 used to. Don’t even get me started on the MP.
It was interesting on Saturday. I did my first 3 sets of MP and something just didn’t feel right. In fact, it was hurting both shoulders. I got suspicious and started doing some checking. Sure enough, the damned bar I was using didn’t have the rings in the same spot. My grip was about 3 inches wider than it should have been.
I am sure there is a reason they have bars like that, but damned if I know why. They should be marked! Some poor smaller framed guy, like myself, could get hurt because of that!
New belt got here today! And wouldn’t you know it, I have lost enough over the past 2 1/2 weeks that I can now lever the old one closed.
Albeit, it is a bit too tight for comfort. If things keep going as they are, I will be able to comfortably use the old one in a couple of weeks.
That’s what I get for a lack of patience.
I think I will try it out, tomorrow, on bench…lol. I always wear it on my heavier sets away. So, why not. Hoping to put up 325# or more tomorrow. But we will just have to see.

With that small frame of yours you’ll be able to go running around jumping over stuff with me in no time.
Lol…I’ve read your log. No way! I like being able to walk…and breathe.
Of course, I HAVE to build build some work capacity and endurance. It is the only way I am going to beat my brother at racquetball! And he isn’t little either. He just doesn’t need an oxygen mask after the 1st point.
After a few points, if I can’t reach the ball with fewer than one step, I just let it go.
Okay, I am not that bad. But I don’t feel competitive enough with him to push myself to a coronary…yet.
Bench workout later today. Brother is going to get to workout with me. Hoping to up the weight, even if just a little, from last week.
I have been going through the logs and it became apparent that certain people are missing. Of course, if I hadn’t disappeared for so long, I might not need to ask the question.
This workout was kind of a reality check. Everything was heavy and slow. I have zero explosiveness right now. I think this might call for a slightly different approach. Yes, you are probably right, making such a statement after only 2 weeks back might be a bit premature…but it can’t hurt.
I think I am going to train towards reps with 315# on bench and 225# on MP. I still want to top a 350# bench and 250# MP by the beginning of summer. I just don’t think it is going to happen by trying to re-introduce myself to load with few reps at weight.
Bench
barx20
95x10
135x10
185x10
225x5
275x5
300x1
315x1
320x1 - took every damned thing I had. Slow as shit. I have no pop right now.
315x1
Chest Supported T-bar
2 plates x 10
3 plates x 10x2 - hurt my elbows. Need a neutral grip.
Lat pulls
130x10
170x10
190x8
150x12
Mechanical Flyes
150x10
190x10
230x10
Followed with two games of racquetball. For the first time since I moved here, I did not get out of breath. It was very heartening. Normally I am sucking all of the oxygen out of the room. But this time I was able to keep my wind. I still lost…but only by 2 points…lol.

I think the new plan makes sense…build a base with reps and re-train the mind…by summer you will be rocking the numbers!
“Re-train the mind”…I am really trying to do this. I have been thinking a lot about my ultimate goals.
I turn 46 in a couple of weeks. Now that we are up here around family, there will be a lot more racquetball, fishing, camping, tubing/skiing, etc… I am not sure whether an obsessive pursuit of strength is conducive to that. I do tend to get single-minded.
I know I want my bench back to 405 and my MP back to 315. Outside of that, though, I am starting to think that adding reps at those weights might be a saner goal than exceeding those weights. Less likelihood of something bad happening as my age goes up and physicality goes down.
Of course, some of you know me well enough to know that such goals are not in my nature. So, we’ll see. But I do need to slow down and take my time on this. Fun, not frustration or fanaticism…

Hmmm…is this my mid-life crisis?
No mid-life crisis. You’re just training smarter.
Okay…short synopsis. Today is my daughter’s and my wife’s birthday. So, I have to take my daughter out to lunch and my wife to supper.
But I will watch the calories…
MP Day
Surprising even myself, I stuck with the plan. I got to 225#, did the reps I wanted and stopped…even though I had another one, if not two, in me.
Brother made it to the workout. I think he is getting mildly…uh…unsettled by my workouts, though. He normally did three days a week…push, pull, legs. I workout on planes, for MP and bench, then group arms and legs. Oh well…
MP
barx20
95x10
135x10
165x5
185x5
205x5
225x3x2
Lat Pulls

35x10x2
Cable Rear Delt Raises
30x10
35x10
drop set - 40x10, 25x6, 15x7
That’s it.
Got the reps…figured number 4 and 5 will be there next week. Off to feed!
Looking strong Skip. Hope the ladies have great birthdays. Nice work with the weight loss. And I’m not sure if it was a slip or you’re sayng soming about how you feel about your brother’s workout style but you called him ‘her’ in your post.

Thanks, Steve.
I was rushing the post and didn’t proof it…lol. Just corrected that…and other typos.
His workouts are fine. He lacks no intensity, has a plan and might eventually be stronger than me…again. For now, though, I have him on MP and bench. We are pretty much even on legs.
Since he doesn’t normally MP, that will probably stay above his.
At 5’7", and barrel chested, though…he has a few advantages on some lifts.
