For those of you who have had ART done, how many sessions did it take until you were “cured”? I have tight hip flexors and a slight strain in my back, an appointment next tuesday and not a lot of cash to work with (hence the desire for short-term treatment). Also, for Canadians, any indication of cost? My ART practitioner is also a chiro. thanks
Took about 8 sessions to cure my shoulder problem. My ART guy was also a chiro and had me do a little physio to fix a muscle imbalance. Think it was $80 approx first session and $60 after that (CDN $ I’m from Toronto). It was a great investment for me because I was so frusterated I almost quit training. Health insurance from work covered some of it.
Good luck.
I pulled my left pec/ant. deltoid and could only lift 25lb. d-bells on swiss ball press for about 15 reps b-4 real pain set in (it took 2 wks. after the injury to work up to this) After my first session I could use 45-50lb. d-bells in the same manner and now after 2 months and about 5 sessions I can pretty much do a reg. chest wrkout and my strength is almost completely restored.
I had ART on my shoulder. It took 6 treatments. Frankly, I thought at the time that I was done after 4 sessions, but then the last 2 treatments also seemed to help. It was expensive, but it was also money well spent, because I have range of motion I haven’t had in 20 years, and my shoulder is now pain free. I paid 100 bucks a session in New York City, if that means anything.
One thing I can say about ART is you should see an improvement during the first session. For me it was pretty dramatic. I think if you are injured, you will find it well worth the expense. My shoulder injury didn’t really repond to anything else I tried: icing, ice and heat alternated, active rest, complete rest, stretching, working through it. Ice/heat helped temporarily, but the only thing that worked for more than a day was ART.
If you are not injured, it may not require 6 sessions for you…(just taking an extremely wild guess). Since you see improvement after every session, you may want to try as many sessions as you can afford. Also, you may want to discuss your financial situation with your ART practitioner. Maybe s/he will be sympathetic. It is worth going once, for a diagnosis. I doubt you will regret it.
I’m surprised that your insurance doesn’t cover the cost unless you don’t have it, but I thought Canadians had better system than we do (us poor Americans who have to work with the atrocious health insurance companies…thank God I have PPO).
If I were you, i’d ask the ART person who’ll work with you. Perhaps you can workout a deal so you can do monthly payment if you don’t have enough cash to pay right now.
I’ve had rotator cuff problems in both my shoulders for several years. Last summer my chiro. was able to give me 100% relief in one shoulder after 1 treatment. He was also able to give me great relief with one treatment for both a pulled hamstring and a pulled calf. My shoulder has begun to act up again within the last two months and this time two treatments has not given me the same relief. I think it depends on many things. 1)the chiropracter 2)the injury and 3) doing the stretching after treatment. I also live in Canada and treatments cost me $40.00 each.
I used ART for a bad hamstring problem, due to muscle imbalance. 1st session helped a lot and I went from about 50% to 75-80% range of motion. 2nd weekly visit - I walked out perfect…for about 30 minutes. The ‘fix’ just couldn’t hold for some reason and I digressed back to about 80% range of motion. 3rd weekly visit was the charm and I remained cured. I was also doing PT during the same time period. Sessions cost $75 each.
%80 in one session, lasted for months
Magnus and cloboro where exactly did you go for your sessions? I was looking into ART for a knee problem. I’m from toronto and found a place today called the Soft Tissue Institute on Front St. Thanks alot guys
ART is the shit. Ive had it done 4 times and im going back on monday and friday of next week. I squatted today for the first time in 9 months. did 315 and it felt pretty good. Also had impingement in my left shoulder and increased my overhead press by 35lbs in one day. And now my insurance covers it and it only costs $7. Is this a miracle or what?
