notafob,

Other than the #of ART treatments and the reference to PT, you don’t really give a good idea of what treatment has been done and over what period of time (other than that the problem has been there for 3 months).

First of all, the ART/chiro should have done a complete neuro/ortho/musculoskeletal exam on you to come up with a working diagnosis prior to starting therapy.

In addition, they should have been able to do ultrasound in addition to the ART.

Also, you should have been given a home stretching and rotator cuff strengthening program. The scapulothoracic prime movers should have been addressed in this program as well.

A generally accepted treatment regimen would have been 3xwk for two weeks, followed by reassessment of your condition. If you made no improvement or got worse, then a shoulder MRI w/ contrast could have been ordered to assess the degree of injury present.

If you were making steady progress with the treatment, then the exercise could have been stepped up for two more weeks. At which time you again reassess. Typically if you still have significant symptoms at 4 wks then an MRI is warranted. Pending outcome, a referral to an orthopedist is necessary if any significant lesion is found. If no significant finding is present then a referral could be made for co-management or treatment continued based on doc/pt decision.

The chiro should be able to order an MRI, contrast is best for shoulders. They should also be able to refer you to an ortho as needed.

Obviously, if you continue to do the same activities that caused the problem initially, then progression with treatment will be slower.

If you have any questions, let me know.

Take care,

Well I went to 2 PTs. The First one did ultrasound, and this heat wave device and also taught me some stretches; mainly for my anterior deltoid. The 2nd PT just told me to try to retract my scapula back and down as often as possible, also taught me to do cuff rotations at shoulder level.

The chiro right now is doing ART to break up the scar tissue. He didn’t do ultrasound on me or tell me to do any cuff strengthening exercises.
I’ve been through 4 or 5 treatments so far without huge improvements, if any…

A little sensitive, Doc?

Do the words “fucking joke” mean anything to you?
Shit, if I had the ability to get through the pre-chiro stuff I’d be one myself.
That’s how highly I think of the calling.
That doesn’t mean I’m not going to make fun of it.
I make fun of everything.
You can also say “chirocrackter”.
That’s kind of funny too.

Sorry I offended you.

Hey RainJack–has your wife taken you down, pinned you and choked you out lately?

What do chiros, The Gap, and Cinnabon all have in common?

You usually can find one next door to an Orange Julius at the mall!! LOL

I don’t know about you what when I go to the doctor I don’t expect to be able to buy a Performance Fleece from an Old Navy under the same roof.

JW,

Sensitive, not really. Actually I make fun of a lot of chiros myself. There are some docs I would really like to thin from the herd.

I think its like ethnic jokes, if you are a member of that group, you can say whatever you want, but if someone else says it, it’s considered offensive.

Sometimes it’s hard to tell from a post what the poster’s intent was. Usually your sense of humor comes through pretty easily, but I didn’t get that from the post I referenced.

No big deal. I’ll scratch your name off my list

You should really get back to busting on Al Shades.

Take care,

Ryan

Well, Doc, I gotta admit I understand completely.
I do however call him ‘chiroquackter’ to his face. Of course, I also call him ‘god’…so…ya know?

Ultrasound doesnt work well. Its use is very limited, and probably is a VERY mute point. The Chiro should have taught you exercises (core, spinal, and shoulder…they’re connected). Manipulating the area allows for increased mobility and joint lubrication (POST-ART). AND Basically the Chiropractic physician can do MORE than the PT, ATC, or any other Therapist overall can do. But its their discretion b/c they are Physicians and are not being directed by anyone… Not that this is always a good thing, but it life. Some are better than others.

As far as the comment about the schooling, If you couldn’t pass the “weeder” courses at a 12-18 credit of 300-400 level courses, then you definitely could not get through the 30 credit all-year-round semesters of Chiropractic/Grad school.

As far as location of Private practices, yes its true that many are located in “odd” places, but hey its…location, location, location. And there are many Clinics located in strip-malls all around the country.
