Arnold Updates

He was called on depth 2-1. My coach was sitting at the referee table and verified that. Hard to believe by watching that video. But oftentimes the view from the side is very different than the front or back, as we all know.

Regarding Summers red lighted squat attempt, I am pretty sure he was called on depth, hence the 2 reds from the side judges. Both of his squats looked very close to the proper depth, in my opinion from the video it looked like the first one was there, just barely, and it looked like the second one was not, just barely. The IPF wants it to be clear that the lifter hit depth, although I agree they are not perfectly consistent, and for record attempts they are likely even a bit stricter.

Whatever the case, his strength and power to move that weight were awesome, I hope he gets that record or more in the future.[/quote]

Who cares if the IPF wants it to be clear so that they dont get criticized? Are they so scared of internet warriors? What matters is whether or not the lifter hits depth, and it looks pretty damn clear that he hit depth. To take it away from him because he didnt actually touch the ground with his ass is asinine, and to say that “well this is a record, we are going to need more than normal” is ridiculous.

(If I misunderstood your point, apologies in advance, nothing but respect for you Tim)

I think most people who choose to lift USAPL/IPF understand the way the judges work. Those who don’t care for it leave for other feds. And Dixie, my dear, I still cannot find how to get to your log with the newly redesigned site!

Took me a while to figure out how to find it other than through my hub, but I found it.

Training Lab hover → training logs over → training logs

That man sure has power.

As far as the depth call… As pointed out it is really hard to call it from the front because he is a very (very) big man and he has quite a bit of forward lean. Not saying his squat was high by any means but I am just saying that when you lean forward more, it looks like you are lower because of the lowering of the bar.

But in reality a lot of the lowering of the bar is from back bending forward rather than the lowering of the hips. Not sure if that makes sense…

Anyways, great lift.

This makes sense. I thought from the video the second squat looked like it was in there, I can’t tell on the third one. Neither is certainly deep enough from the front to use that view as a reason to disagree with the call of the side judges.
