This was my opinion as well. If Heath’s better conditioning was obvious to someone as inobservant as myself, then well… but still, was anyone else mildly disappointed by Kai’s posing routine? I found it less inspired than whichever one he last did to Dirty Diana. Or maybe it only seems that way because the first time is always the most innovative.

Based on what he writes in his column in MD it’s not really that biased. I like the guy and think he has a great physique. So much shit happened to the guy. I dont think he’d retire solely because he doesnt win the O. And turning 37 this year doesn’t make him all that young.
Can anyone point me to a “how to judge a body building show”, article or something. The guys I thought looked the best weren’t winners. Just trying to get a better understanding. And yes, I did use the search.

It would be interesting to hear from a judge at that level. I mean, it’s certainly interesting to watch such high caliber shows, and argue over who everyone things should have won, but I imagine the people who judge the Olympia, or the Arnold (which is over 2 days I believe) have a much more scrutinous (is that a word?!) eye.

Maybe they tried going for aesthetics in 2008 Mr.O and it resulted in a backlash and now it’s back to size again. Kai wasn’t his best…whatever.
Someone in a different thread posted shots of phil from 2 years ago and this years… Damn, talk about dramatic improvement.
Based on the pics I’ve seen, it could have certainly gone Phil’s way without a doubt.

on a different note to those asking how shows are scored, regarding this show in particular. First, if Kai doesn’t limbo, flip, and breakdance people are going to be disappointed. Second, Kai could have been a touch drier but he was the biggest he’s ever been on stage, way fuller than at the O. he’ll get the condition right once he’s adjusted to the addition 10+lbs of stage weight, his chest, arms, delts were improved and will grow more.
lastly, i love phil, best arms in the game but he has flaws that glaring next bigger guys. phils back came up a ton and his BDB was great but not close to Kai’s IMHO. Phil’s legs, mid/low back need to come up, he needs muscle maturity which will come w/ yrs, PHIL’S CLAVICLES ARE NARROW, PHIL’S CHEST GETS LOST IN HIS MM BECAUSE OF THOSE ARMS. PHIL ISN’T AS COMPLETE AS KAI AND WON’T BEAT HIM ANYTIME SOON.
if phil is losing in the majority of poses and all poses from the rear…he loses. Kai’s only going to continue to hone this shit in and when he’s dry and full blending the 09’ and 10’ Arnold looks he even beats Mr. Cutler too.

I agree for the most part. Toney does have a pretty small waist relative to his shoulders, but I still don’t think he has enough mass to hang with the shorter guys. The difference in height is ridiculous though. Branch Warren didn’t look his best either.
It seems to me like the tanner he was using kinda washed out his lines on his upper body. Or maybe that was just his less-than-spot-on conditioning. I do think the bodybuilding.com commentators were off the mark when it came to Melvin Anthony’s posing. I don’t think his krunking really did much to showcase his physique.
I’m so tired of hearing “Phil is narrow”. IMO this is the best he has ever looked at a heavier weight. BB is not simply about size the last time I checked and Phil looked better than anyone.
