okay, so after talking about doing this for a while, they finally posted the info on this with enough time for me to prepare for it.
the Army National Guard Combatives tournement will be on March 26-28 in Ft Benning, GA, which gives me a good 4 months of prep. i’m shooting for the 205 class, since i weigh a “soft” 227 right now…
here’a link with more info for those that are interested: Redirecting...

Awesome bro. We have some guys in our Relson Gracie association in Fort Hood who compete in that.
are they competing in the National Guard tourney, or active duty one?
Tito’s most likely referring to my mma school. We don’t have anyone currently stationed here that is competing in that tourney. Is it just for national guard?..because the combative tourney held at Fort Hood is usually for all active, national guard, and reserve.

well, i think they split them up into the Active duty tourney (which is at FT Hood) and the Guard tourney (Which will be at Ft Benning)…i think.
this is all pretty new, so information has not been disseminated very well yet…
it looks like i won’t be competing this year (sorry HolyMac)…
i’m still walking around at 225-230lbs, and i wanted to compete at 205. i’m 6’1" and more of a medium, lanky frame, so i don’t see heavywegiht being ideal for me. it’s a two day tournement, with at least 3 fights (if i win), so i would not be cutting too much water, just because i think it would be impossible to rehydrate for that format.
i had a couple things come up that derailed my weight loss (i have hypothyroidism, my wife got extremely sick for a couple months, i like cookies, etc), but i think my plan was very aggressive, to say the least.
HOWEVER, i finally talked my BJJ instrucor into offering morning classes at the gym, so i’ll be able to get more consistent training, so that’s friggin awesome!

I just fought the 2009 Heavyweight winner out here. I choked him out. I wish I could compete…perhaps 2012. I’d definitely go for 205.
Ha, congratulations, Beastie! Good for you, that’s awesome!

Thanks, Miss P. I actually savored this one as he had a tremendous ego to match his 6’6 frame. The shit he was talking was all the fuel I needed. And of course, after it was done and the witnesses in the gym started talking, word spread around the FOB, and he got really butt-hurt. I could only laugh. My thoughts are if he is the Army’s best heavyweight for three years running, then I would destroy that weight-class. Not to sound full of myself, but all he knew was what he learned in combatives.
