Arms Will NOT Grow

For shits and giggles i just tested my power curl.

132x3
165x1
176x1

I worn an inzer lever belt and The lower back bend was decent with 165 but too excessive for 176. I would hurt myself lifting like that.

How’s that for motivation! Done in 5-7min.

btw since getting back at the iron in Oct i done very little curls and none for low reps.

You know, no offense or anything, but with your 18 inch arms and 20 years of training I’d expect a much stronger bb curl, esp. if it’s cheat curls?

I also have to confess my arms where 17 and a little over half lasted i measured! -

We all exaggerate no?

Am I over training my biceps by working them twice a week. One day a high rep circuit after Lats and another heavy weight low rep day?
Again. Over training is not the amount of work you are doing. It’s a physiological state where your fatigue levels are high for more prolonged than usual periods of time. You still don’t know if you’re over training, because you haven’t figured out if your fatigue caused by that workload surpasses your recovery capabilities.

You don’t need to do high rep circuits right now, I’d progress on the heavy weights first. I would take the high rep session away, and even do another heavy session.

Edit: don’t write “lol”, please.
When did this overtraining thing start and how come some people are so afraid of it?

I guarantee if I had 12 inch arms the LAST thing I would be worried about is overtraining

Best statement/advice i seen for youngsters.

To tell the truth, if you have decent genetics, started off skinny and have a fast metabolism, how else are you going to get way bigger than you are? For small changes in how you look, yeah, stay clean with how you eat.

If your goal is to go from “Urkle” to looking like a lineman for a pro football team only with less body fat, I just don’t see that happening taking the route I see touted here often.
QFT!

great post X. I’ve never seen you put it quite like that before and I 100% agree. I think most (if not all) people would agree with what you said above. Well put.
But I’ve really been saying that…and the results people are actually making seem to show that even though some keep denying it. That is why they spent so long acting like I was obese as if any gains I was making were just adipose.

If you are going from some sort of "geek to chic transformation, short of some true genetics freaks, thinking you will get there without forcing a major gain and creating a drastically different weight set point is an exercise in futility.

If your goal is just to gain 20lbs or less, then by all means, eat as clean as possible.

If your goal is to make people say, “holy shit, did you eat my friend who looks a little like you?” then expect many periods of some mega-meals and drastic changes in body weight.

There is only confusion because the “fitness trainers” around here think we are speaking to them as well when we discuss muscle gains.
I agree and I know where you’re coming from with eating big to get big. I agree you have to eat a shit ton of food if you’re trying to pack on some serious size.

I think the way you worded that first post and the way it came across were excellent. I think you would a lot less shit from haters with posts like the one i originally quoted.

Hi

This is a persistent problem I have.

My arms do not grow. At all.

I started a few years back at 135 pounds, with maybe 11 inch arms. Today I am around 175 and just shy of 6 foot, and my arms are at 12 inches flexed.

My diet is good. I have been gaining steadily since the summer around 2 pounds a month. Any faster and I fear its going to be fat gain.

Schedule:

Sun:
Clean and Press (work up to heavy singles)
Strict Press 3 x8
Lateral raises 4 x 12
JM presses 4 x 5
Pushdowns 4 x 12

Tue:
Deadlift (work up to singles or sets of 3)
T bar rows 4 x 8
Other row variation 3 x 10
Barbell curls 4 x 5
Hammer curls 4 x 12

Thurs:
Bench Press (work up to singles or 3RM)
Dumbbell Bench 4 x 8
Weighted dips 4 x 5-8
Pushdowns 5 x 12

Fri:
Squat (work up to heavy singles, doubles or triples)
Leg Press 4 x 12
Leg curl 4 x 12
Barbell curls 4 x 5
Hammer curls/Preacher curls 4 x 12

As shown, I do direct arm work. I also do chinups as [art of my warmup.

My strength is constantly increasing, yet I seem to be making no gains arms-wise.

Ideas?

His body looks so weird.

Hi I have ‘stubborn arms’ (or like to say I do, at least) so this is my response to your post…

What’s your form (really) like? I was getting stronger every week BUT I wasn’t honest in my form; Do barbell curls up against a wall so you can’t cheat and follow immediately with a set of Zottman curls. Repeat it 5 times and then see what a pussy you feel with the amount of weight you can Zottman curl with good form!

If you have not been using genuinely good form then you will find this very tough and your biceps will be screaming (in the session and in the proceeding days). Obviously a similar concept and be applied with your triceps. Using strict form dramatically reduces the load you can use and your poundage gains will be slower but that means shit as long as you’re stimulating the muscle with more intensity. Getting super-strict should make you feel like you can feel those fibers tearing down.

In general, my philosophy is that everyone is different so while some people will grow by simply doing deads and chins, not everyone will (thus a guy who has built 18 inch arms with no direct arm work isn’t in a good position to suggest how to train for bigger arms to a guy who simply isn’t gaining by using this approach).

When you use strict form you sure as hell know what your biceps are - the same can’t be said for non-targeted exercise they way they are usually performed. Regardless of my deadlift improvements and chin improvements, they don’t do a lot for my arms.

Build or buy a pullup bar and start doing chin ups every time you think about it or pass by it. Work up to 50 chins a day.

Doing something similar with the barbell curl could also work.
I am REALLY tired of people still acting like you should be doing BACK EXERCISES to train your fucking arms.

Do you want to know what got my arms over 18" in less than 2-3 years after starting around 15"? CURLS. Not chin ups, not pull ups. Fucking CURLS are why my arms look the way they do know.

My back looks the way it does because when I do back exercises, I am NOT trying to train anything but my fucking BACK.

?

There are no “specific times”. Everything about how I trained from the time I was 150lbs to last week is in that thread. If you really can’t get how I trained my arms from all of that, I am not sure how I could possibly explain it better than I already have over the last half decade.

Thanks for the reply, I will check that thread again

I love barbell curlin’

I think you should focus on triceps alot too since it makes up 2/3 of the arm size.

Btw,has anyone tried slight incline Pjr pullovers? I do them this way,of course body on bench. I find it more elbow friendly and shoulder friendly.

I put almost an inch on my arms training them heavy 3 times a week over the summer. I trained biceps with chest, triceps with back and then had and arm day.

this is the part i never understood about this site. the guy above obviously has some decent sized arms and is bigger than you, yet you feel the need to point out his legs for no obvious reason IN AN ARMS THREAD. you cant just say good fucking job for adding an inch to his arms? honestly.

Not only that, but that guy (gooze) has pretty impressive stats for a 20 year old (225lbs @ 5ft 9…and not fat), much better than most. He’s got what it takes
