To tell the truth, if you have decent genetics, started off skinny and have a fast metabolism, how else are you going to get way bigger than you are? For small changes in how you look, yeah, stay clean with how you eat.
If your goal is to go from “Urkle” to looking like a lineman for a pro football team only with less body fat, I just don’t see that happening taking the route I see touted here often.
I understand and agree, and see it everyday at my gym.
I have amazing genetics; when the next Big Famine comes, my super efficient metabolism will help me survive over most everyone! They do suck for BBing purposes, though.

It amazes me the disrespect some young/new ones on here have (not you, just some). They act like the big guys owe them something, like they’re paying them for it.
Too many people ask and don’t even have the humility to listen or give respect.

Ahh…the grass is always greener on the other side (lol). The only time I really enjoy eating is when recomping (not often) and when not having to force the food down.
I’ll start concentrating on the quality of my diet (nutrients etc) when I’ve reached my bodyweight goals (probably around 250lbs), but until then and while I’m young, I’m not going to mess about ![]()
Sure I can “get away with more”, but it takes far more calories, and that makes it a real chore (if you’re not naturally “gluttonous”).

great post X. I’ve never seen you put it quite like that before and I 100% agree. I think most (if not all) people would agree with what you said above. Well put.

But I’ve really been saying that…and the results people are actually making seem to show that even though some keep denying it. That is why they spent so long acting like I was obese as if any gains I was making were just adipose.
If you are going from some sort of "geek to chic transformation, short of some true genetics freaks, thinking you will get there without forcing a major gain and creating a drastically different weight set point is an exercise in futility.
If your goal is just to gain 20lbs or less, then by all means, eat as clean as possible.
If your goal is to make people say, “holy shit, did you eat my friend who looks a little like you?” then expect many periods of some mega-meals and drastic changes in body weight.
There is only confusion because the “fitness trainers” around here think we are speaking to them as well when we discuss muscle gains.
Build or buy a pullup bar and start doing chin ups every time you think about it or pass by it. Work up to 50 chins a day.
Doing something similar with the barbell curl could also work.
Be careful with the eccentric it can cause a lot of fatigue so i would not slow it down with this kind of frequency.
Personally, my biceps response best to chinups because my biceps take a lot of the stress.

I am REALLY tired of people still acting like you should be doing BACK EXERCISES to train your fucking arms.
Do you want to know what got my arms over 18" in less than 2-3 years after starting around 15"? CURLS. Not chin ups, not pull ups. Fucking CURLS are why my arms look the way they do know.
My back looks the way it does because when I do back exercises, I am NOT trying to train anything but my fucking BACK.

Am I over training my biceps by working them twice a week. One day a high rep circuit after Lats and another heavy weight low rep day?
Again. Over training is not the amount of work you are doing. It’s a physiological state where your fatigue levels are high for more prolonged than usual periods of time. You still don’t know if you’re over training, because you haven’t figured out if your fatigue caused by that workload surpasses your recovery capabilities.
You don’t need to do high rep circuits right now, I’d progress on the heavy weights first. I would take the high rep session away, and even do another heavy session.
Edit: don’t write “lol”, please.
When did this overtraining thing start and how come some people are so afraid of it?
I guarantee if I had 12 inch arms the LAST thing I would be worried about is overtraining

Curls work of course he’s already doing them.
My arms are 18 inch dude that still doesn’t qualify me has an expert. I’m just throwing an idea out there. Chinups not pullups work really well for my biceps.
I’ll just sneak right out of here. I’m more of a “movement” guy then targeting muscle exercises.

Mine AREN’T 18" anymore. I hit that very soon out the gate.
There is nothing wrong with throwing ideas out there, but the current trend of telling newbs to NOT train their backs with back exercises because they should be focused on their biceps is fucking stupid and never should have seen the light of day.
Trainers supposedly did that to keep dumb newbs from ONLY training biceps and chest. Too bad lying to people does more damage than good which is why people are so screw up about this.
In fact, if you are training back and your biceps are getting that fried, you ARE TRAINING YOUR FUCKING BACK WRONG.

Yeah for bodybuilding purposes your right, i agree %100.
Chinups are just an excellent upper body lift that hits the biceps hard. But you right newbs probably shouldn’t focus on using it has a “bicep exercise”.
The ironic thing is if he does start doing a couple hundred chinups a week i’m sure his arms will react favorly. ![]()

All that ever did for me was murder my forearm and biceps tendons…
(and that in turn messed up the rest of my upper body training)

You know what, we used to train doing pull ups first in the workout most days out the week.
We did that…WAIT FOR IT…TO GET BIGGER LATS.
It worked. I would never have done that for bigger arms…because we already know what works best for them by looking at all of the other huge fuckers who built huge arms.
This is one reason I think most people should have pictures up if they give advice. I bet that would cut down on so much extraneous confusing crap.
I don’t see too many guys with 20" arms who still think the best way to get huge arms is back exercises. It seems to almost always come from people who aren’t that big.

Yeah i stopped doing them myself to see if my right shoulder would improve and it did! Back to barbell benching. Its still an excellent exercise but of course it has its risks.
For the OP start throwing in some power/cheat BB curls instead of chinups. Personally i can power curl around 150lbs for 3-5 reps. More then once i showed off around my friends and picked up my oly bar with 2 “blues” on it. Which equals 132lbs - i have an old york canada set - and power curled 132 for 6 reps with no warmup.
You know, no offense or anything, but with your 18 inch arms and 20 years of training I’d expect a much stronger bb curl, esp. if it’s cheat curls?

Most of the 20 years was “off”. I’m a naturally big dude. I was over 200lbs when i was in grade 8 - around 12 years old.
What did you expect? Maybe i should work on the lift! ![]()
