I will say that Rip says he doesn’t program curls because guys will do them anyway rather than forbidding them.

Of others who program full body work:

Greg Nuckols has slots in his programs for biceps work

Mike T has GPP days and/or pivot blocks for biceps.

When I started, I had a day dedicated to arms. It involved a dropset for bis then another for tris then 3 bi/tri supersets. This blew up my arms.

Should powerlifters/strongmen do this? No but that shouldn’t make one conclude that they shouldn’t do arm work at all…

Its interesting logic given that he programs benching, haha.

When I started, every day was arms day. Bicep curls, triceps curls, delt curls, wrist curls, we didn’t care about technicalities.

Heck, I’m gonna pump the guns a little later just because that’s the universal Friday night man thing.

A big muscle is a strong muscle.

It’s hard to keep the traps out of it and scaps pinned flat.

I should be more careful about this kind of joking around though. Next week we’ll be fielding questions about delt curls.

I think the general consensus is, if the actual question is, “How long til my arms get to 16 inches if I only do Madcow 5x5 and never work my arms?”, then the answer is, “Dunno, probably gonna take a while.”

Kind of a trick question. Isn’t it a Rippetoe program?
So it’s somewhere between:

  1. Never
  2. 3 weeks if you follow the diet, but you won’t like them
