Are post work out carbs necessary

I have heard some conflicting remarks about post workout carbs. I have read some of the articles here and some from other places on the net.

With people who like myself are endo/mesomorph by nature, meaning I grow muscle quickly but the fat is right there too. Would I be better off consuming my carbs during my workout so that I can work them off?

Also a gymnastic trainer I know suggested that for fat loss I should wait 30-45 minutes after a workout before consuming protien and carbs. He said the reason was that when you work out GH is released for about 30 minutes after the workout is done and that carbs shut down the GH immediately after workout.

Any of you guys who are more endomorphs have trouble getting the fat off with post workout carbs?

Thanks for any comments.

YES they are. I like to get 75-125 [depending on my training] from my post workout drink and about the same from a meal 1hr later.

There are many many reasons for the post workout carbs. But all you really need to know is that it will help you gain muscle faster and recover faster.
It will also keep cortisol levels down.

If you over 10% bf and you really want to drop bf. Then don’t have post workout carbs until you get below 10% bf. Instead have a protein shake with a shit load of protein and glutamine.

they are better times to reduce carbs than after your workout. Why not take them in when they will be used most effectively?
T-dawg is a good example of this. Pretty much a keto diet excluding breakfast (lo GI carbs) and postworkout (hi GI carbs).

yes. if u want the reasons why, please read Nutrient Timing. A great book. can be picked up at GNC for about 4 bucks. A recommended read from Berardi.

By personal experiece, I think and believe that pw carbs are overrated- especially while dieting. SOME carbs yes( in my case, I take in around 30 carbs pw after a full body w/o) but not a whole bunch of sugary shit. Depending on your workout, the number of sets performed, the number of repetitions in each set performed and so forth, you should adjust your intake accordingly. But if your workout are fairly short( which they, in my opinion, should be) don?t swallow down a bunch of carbs( i.e more than 50 grams) and think that they all will go to replenish your glycogen stores. I have BETTER progress with my training and diet when I keep my carbs to 30gms pw as opposed to when I consumed 80-100gms. Remember though, I use 1-2 work sets, 1-2 exercises/musclegroup, mod. reps. My glycogen stores may not deplete as much as yours, but I don?t see any need to go over 50gms unless you?re seriously trying to gain weight.

Walleye, there are some pretty savy body compositionists out there that believe endos/mesos do better bulking with a lesser amount of carbs than obviously your hard-gainer ecto types. Even then, they still believe carbs to be helpful, just a lesser amount. Your focus should be on taking in the carbs you do take in PWO and upon rising, the two times your body is best able to process carbs. Additionally, when bulking be sure to only create a SLIGHT surplus.

Keeping fat gain to a minimum will require PRECISION nutrition. I recommend that you start keeping a food log and read everything here you can get your hands on re nutrition. Just make sure that you’re analyzing critically what you read for appropriateness to YOUR situation. As an example, the Massive Eating numbers are best used by your ectomorph/hard-gainer type.

I’m sorry your PM is not working. I got your message, though I know you didn’t get mine. I’m using Internet Explorer as my browser, by the way, and have had no problem here on the forum. It might be a good idea if you post a message on the Tips & Tech Support Forum for the computer guys.

If you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to ask.

Based on your responses it seems that for my body type (endo/meso) I could do fine with less workout carbs.

I’m currently on the T-Dawg 2.0 training with the EDT but I’m doing it 6 days a week. I’m also taking my fish oil 2.5 tablespoons a day.

Lastly because I’m trying to cut fat ASAP I’m taking Hot-Rx and Mag 10 cycles.

My body is very efficient on converting carbs to fat. I may try taking my creatine loads which has GI carbs before and during my workout. Then following the workout I’ll use a MRP with 53 G of protien and 25 G of carbs which are low GI.

I’ll let you all know how it goes.
