I include beans in my daily meal plans the same way I do oatmeal. Usually I’ll have two meals with grains (oatmeal and brown rice) or two w/ beans (chickpeas and black are the best imo). And the other three with veggies or fruits depending on whether I’m bulking or cutting.
Beans are probably one of the most nutritional carb sources you can choose.
Carbohydrates are not the only thing that can spike insulin. In fact, protein can spike insulin. Whey protein powder can, and so can red meat, which is high on the insulin index.
Cthulhu, do you have a source, possibly? I know protein elicits an insulin response, but I’ve never had a handle on how much of a response for how much protein. I should probably do some tests; i.e., eat my per-meal protein requirement as the first meal of the day and use a glucometer to see what the numbers are fasted state and every half hour thereafter, up to the two-hour marker.
