In “5/3/1 for Powerlifting” you recommended Organic Apple Cider vinegar as a supplement for PCT. I’ve never really given it a second thought because I don’t need it for PCT but I read an article in the greatest website for medical information (cracked.com) about home remedies and it was listed as an muscle relaxant.
Does it have any other benefits?
How much/how often should you take it? (It recommends 2 tablespoons with a little honey in a glass of water)
You’ve recommended Epson salt baths in the past (they work great thank you) any other home remedy tips or tricks you (or anyone else out there) got?
I never ever recommended that for “PCT”. The benefits of ACV are numerous but it also depends on what you believe. But if you believe your doctor, big pharma is only cure. So do what thou wilt.
What I do is take a supplement, make no other changes and see how things changes after a few months. Make notes on everything like bloodwork, to mood, physical changes, etc. it’s very easy and only takes discipline.
Oh cool I got it instead of getting the bottle get the dosage ready capsule supplement. Thanks!
As far as doctors and big pharma I’ve actually lucked out at my current duty station and have an awesome doc that thinks outside the box. I had two herniated discs in my back that were causing some pretty bad muscle spasms in my legs starting spring 2012. Of course he’s put me on rounds of traditional medicine when it’s been bad but he has balanced it out with chiropractic, therapeutic massage and acupuncture.
I’m hoping the apple cider vinegar can help some with the muscle spasms as well. If I had to list all the things that have helped in order of effectiveness:
Prowler rehab/prehab (I squat on Monday and this can trigger the spasms Tue-Thur) I put anywhere from 50lbs to 140lbs added to the Prowler and do mountain climber type walks to stretch out the hips and get blood flowing to them and my lower back.
Defranco agile 8. Really helps to unlock the hips.
Chiropractic sessions
Massage sessions
Pain killers (percocet, lorcet etc)
Yep as awesome as they are pain killers still don’t work as well as good prehab/rehab like the Prowler and defranco agile 8.
I dealt with muscle spasms starting spring 2012, the ENTIRE summer 2012 and going into fall 2012. Since I added in the Prowler and a few daily mobility sessions (defranco agile 8) I can count on my hands the amount of time I’ve had flare ups since then.
I’ll add in the Apple Cider Vinegar supplement and gauge how it helps with relaxation in my hamstrings etc.
Thanks for the great programming and other advice with rehab/prehab, nutrition and shit like that!
