Apparently Bodybuilders Are Not Very Strong

Schrodinger’s press is my favorite variation.

Me, but I haven’t quit. I hit 545 with a Texas Deadlift Bar at 240 lbs. That was about 26 weeks after hip surgery for a torn labrum.

Throw in a hip flare up and surgery on my biceps tendon and I’m back to being a sub 500 puller at 225 lbs, but the pursuit continues.

That 600 lb deadlift thread is actually what got my back to deadlifting. I injured my back pretty good in 2014 by rushing a warm-up for a max attempt and scrapped the lift. I did power cleans and clean pulls, though. That had great carryover for me. I was inspired to go max out on deadlift during the 600 lb thread and hit 450 on the deadlift bar. That was my first deadlift session since the injury.

I completely agree with you. It’s all about priorities. People need to stop making excuses. It’s okay if you don’t reach a certain level of strength, but own it.

Instead of saying “That’s not possible if you’re natty”, try “That’s not possible for me because I work full time, have a wife and kids, and I’m not willing to do what it takes.”

I don’t think people realize that it’s okay to take that stance. You might not be able to be the WSM and a good father and husband. There’s nothing wrong with being good at those things and average in hit gym.

Kinda reminds me of the whole schoolyard thing, about how bodybuilders cannot beat up kick boxers

Sure your average bodybuilder will probably not outlift a powerlifter on the powerlifts, but does that make him weak?

I know of three bodybuilders off the top of my head in Australia who have competed in powerlifting, all of them doing well enough to at least make it to ProRaw, which puts them in the top five to 10 per cent in their weight classes.

I know. Same here. Zero doesn’t seem quite accurate on that last lift. Heckuva effort.

Just for fun. And because I’m bored.

What was that movie where a couple of nerds were arguing about how many sheets are in a roll of toilet paper? This reminds me of that.

To defend the man trying to open a bottle, while playing rugby I’ve fractured both my thumbs (and tons of other injuries) but for a long time I couldn’t grip properly to open anything as I didn’t have any proper strength in my thumbs.

Still not great to be fair.

Makes me think about this guy I used to work with. Had a Coke can but his fingers were really thick so he couldn’t get under the tab to open it so he just used his thumb to push in the opening. Not sure how hard that is, but it got a laugh out of me.

Don’t ask @Koestrizer to try this, he would sever his thumb !! :joy::joy:

Bodybuilders have to resort to using jeans to create friction because t-shirts must be worn skin tight lol

I would be offended… If it wasn’t that accurate! :joy:

Who the current strongest guy in bodybuilding? Luke Sandoe would be up there. Here he’s pressing 220lb dumbells.

Totally agree with both

Powerlifter train mostly on 1-6 RM
Bodybuilder 8-15 RM

Powerlifter mostly don’t diet and don’t care about their bf level unless they have to make weight
Bodybuilder maintains relatively low bf

Powerlifter rest time is 1-5 mins
Bodybuilder 30s-2 mins

Powerlifter tries to fix weak lifts
Bodybuilder tries to fix weak body parts

All of this should tell you why they are so different, Bodybuilders if they train like powerlifters theyd be much much stronger. Likewise for powerlifter, if they train like bodybuilders theyd be much much more muscular.

Yes. It comes down to neurology at this point. Just as in the past scientists speculated that increased hypertrophy would cause a blurring of motor neurons - increased hypertrophy only enhances a motor neurons potentiation.

I also think it’s so, SO important ALL athletes train for hypertrophy in some regard. Oly lifters, crossfitters, strongmen, powerlifters.

In my sport, I see of it as almost a detriment when newer athletes subscribe to jerks and ultra-dynamic forms of lifting something and stress that work too much. If you’re a newer athlete in the sport, and you’ve only been training for like 2-4 years, hypertrophy is golden for overall strength.

I think many new-intermediate strength lifters need to incorporate more intense bodybuilding style workouts.

Fuck.

Mate so weird that you posted that and a few days after Luke commits suicide.

Is that a confirmed or just rumour? Not flaming - just interested.

Not 100% mate, was commented on another BB IG who knows Luke though.
