Fouads latest podcast with two other friends touches on his issues.
No idea who it was. I saw him on a few posters and internet things but BB is not my thing.
But irrespective - no one likes to see a young man lose his life. No matter the cause.
how strong they need to be
Everyone is right depending on how you define strong. A 190 lb. olympic wrestler would manhandle a 350 lb bodybuilder or powerlifter on the mat. The PL’er would crush the wrestler and BBer in a DL contest. The bodybuilder would crush on a 225 bench for reps. Who cares?
You cared enough to post your opinion.![]()
If you watch videos from the OG bodybuilders they are upset about how lazy the sport has gotten. A good full muscle is a strong muscle. So it really depends on the work ethic and the body builder. But to do it the right way you build the muscle not fill it with oil.
Again, it’s all relative. I dont think a lot of old school guys realized that you could specifically train more for one than the other (strength vs hypertrophy). Not that one won’t yield some degree of the other, but no top BBer is gonna beat a top PLer on the platform, just as no top PLer is gonna beat a top BBer on stage… BUT, both will easily smoke most people off the street in both arenas.

I liked to train both. I competed in both. I would say I was a better bodybuilder than powerlifter. But I was not a relatively weak bodybuilder compared to a powerlifter.
I never trusted my eye to gauge muscle progression. I always figured if I was getting stronger, then I was getting bigger muscle mass, or the potential to get more muscle mass.
My recent observations tend to confirm the origin of the thread. At the gym I currently train there are quite a few guys with nice size shoulders and arms, but I am amazed at how weak they are. (disclaimer: there is no one there close to ready for the stage)
I get a few guys ask me my opinion from time to time. One thing I say is, “Do you ever see anyone squat 405 for ten or so reps in here? I rarely see anyone attempt more than 315 for a few reps, and those above parallel.”
