I’ve read a great deal about nutrition lately, and one topic most authors fail to address is the effect of food on the endocrine system as it pertains to the production of estrogen and testosterone.
T-Nation authors have written at length about the existence, however, of estrogenic foods like soy, but I’ve not read anything about foods that are androgenic. Though it would stand to reason, at least in my mind, that such foods exist, I’ve found nothing about them online. Does anyone know of a food known to be androgenic?
i’d be interested in this topic too, though i don’t have any answers. I remember reading on this site that broccoli and similar veggies have anti-estrogenic properties which is somewhat helpful
Very cool. Thanks for the link. I’d read about the anti-e foods like broccoli, but hadn’t recalled reading anything about androgenic foods. I’ll have to do another search and see what I can turn up.

It’s been a while, maybe even a few years, but there are a few good articles out there. Most of the articles pertain mostly to fats and in fact “The Anabolic Diet” is based on these ideas. So check that diet out if only to glean some of the theory behind it.
I’d have to bust out my biochem book, but I think the configuration of the extra groups sticking off the steroid ring have something to do with the reason that all these steroid-like molecules bind the estrogen receptor and not the androgen receptor.
It’s an interesting question though. I mean, wouldn’t it be nice if there was some plastic we could cook our food in that would be make us stronger, leaner and hornier?
