i won’t make it down to 220 but definitely low 230’s. i’m actually done using the scale as a judge now. i’m going to use the mirror from now on out. i’ve finally gotten into the groove of eating well all the time and doing my conditioning work and GPP on my off days. i actually look forward to it now.

no tank tops for me… i have to draw the line somewhere.

good luck prepping for your meet. are you going to do a full meet??

more like i’m following yours. you are the man when it comes to getting the extra work in to stay conditioned. unfortunately i don’t have any large rocks in my back yard.

Meat -

My Ram arrived yesterday and I tested it out… wow. I actually started laughing under the bar when I threw some weight on I knew I could get once and it flew off my chest.

I’m looking for some suggestions on how to utilize it best for my raw lifts. My thinking is that I’ll use it on ‘bench day’ after my core/working sets are over, then go a little heavier than those sets to try to overload the top portion of the lift (triceps).

My weak spot is about a 2-board distance from my chest-- that’s where I hit the wall. Does it make sense to try to use it with two boards and more weight or would that defeat the purpose? I need to experiment with it to flesh it out a bit to see what works for me, but any words of wisdom are very much appreciated as always. Thx

i use mine pretty much everytime i bench now… i’ve come up with a bunch of different ways to use it. IMO, i really don’t see much advantage of using it with the two board. the advantage of using it is, that as it stretches more at the bottom, the more rebound it will give you. if you stop at the two board level you aren’t getting that much strech out of it. I would definitely always use it through a full ROM.

i’ll give you some different ways i’ve used it.

  • i’ve used it as a first movement for a cycle using my competition grip and just use linear progression each week adding weight. then i would drop back without it and do the same.

-i’ve used it with a narrow grip both touch and go and also paused.

  • iv’e used it with accomodation resistance such as bands and chains

i would try all these variations. i would go high reps and low reps, and pause and touch and go. all of them should show you results.

By the way, JM presses replace tri pushdowns starting tomorrow- Thanks for the help. Also, cute picture of you and your little one.

i’m not really using the scale anymore…just going by what i see in the mirror now.

cool… a really great circuit to do after your heavy shit is incline dumbell extensions, incline elbows out, ballistic pushups and bw dips. obviously the weights are very light and the reps are high on the extensions and elbows out. do two rounds of that and your triceps will hate you.

tricep death is another one. you will need boards from 1 board up to a 4 board. pick a fairly light weight and your first set is a full ROM bench to failure, then add a one board to failure, then a two board to failure…then the three board and finally the four board. do these with a close(er) grip. obviously you wouldn’t do this at the beginning of your training. this is accessory work saved for the end. i know you train alone so you could just slide the boards in and out from under your shirt each time… just make sure you are wearing a big shirt to fit all the different sizes. also set up in the rack because you will fail.

training carb deprived is fun…

highlights.

530 + 140lbs of chain deadlift

435x10 rep set

Tricep death is brutal/awesome.

I love/hate you Dave Tate.

I think I’m inspired to throw that in tomorrow…
