Am I Taking Too Much Creatine?

Hey guys i just started using creatine again. I have read about increased urination while being on creatine because of an increase in liquid intake. I have been consuming MUCH more liquid than usual (~2-2.5 gallons opposed to probably less than 1 gallon), but I dont start urinating until after i take my creatine.

So, for example, I drank about a gallon of water before my workout, and went to the bathroom 1-2 times. Then i took creatine pre/post workout, and from then i probably went about 10 times. Its slowed down now, about 5 hours after my workout.

Could I be taking too much creatine? I take 1 scoop of Biotest creatine (5 grams) before and after my workout mixed with iced tea mix (sugar is the first ingredient).

I guess my questions are:

  1. Am i taking too much creatine?
  2. Am i pissing so much because im taking too much creatine and my body wants to get rid of it?

i’m gonna go out on a limb and guess that the frequent pissing has something to do with the 2-2.5 gallons of water that you’re drinking per day.

I am going to go out on a limb and agree with the previous poster :-), and add that 10 grams is fine, but most likeley at the upper limit of saturation - you are at the point of diminishing returns, adding anymore will most likely do nothing for you.

Surely you’re overestimating your liquid intake.

By the way, what do you think is going to make a bigger difference? The 5 grams of creatine you’re consuming or the 16lbs of water you’re passing through yourself?

There’s no reason you should be consuming that much liquid on a regular basis.

Isn’t the typical creatine dose 5g per day unless you’re loading initially?

Thank you guys for your input. I did some math wrong and am actually taking in 1-1.5 gallons a day. Now that i think of it drinking 2+ gallons would be very hard.

The pissing seems to have slowed down a bit. Today i went much less frequently than i have the past 2-3 days. I guess my body is adjusting.

Creatine is based on a fucking energy system and is available to the body at any given time.

Dosing creatine at 10grams/day is fine at the beginning but you will reach a saturation point in about 2 weeks at that level of dosing, and then you can cut back to just 2-5 grams per day.
