squats 1x5@45, 1x5@95, 1x5@115, 1x5@135
Middle-aged guy told me I was using too much weight on the presses; probably true, since my form was a mess, but REALLY got me down (pwn’d by a man my father’s age.) I have to get more mentally resilient. My squats were a travesty after that.[/quote]
When it doesn’t go over your head all the way - that’s when it’s too much weight.

Who cares if you arch your back? Over head press used to be ‘the’ big lift until it was replaced by bench press. Take a look at some of the big guys do it. They lean back so far it’s like a standing bench press.
Next time middle aged guy has the temerity to talk to you, tell him to go fuck himself and then carve a smiley face into his chest with the j-hooks. I still have the nuts of the last overweight, soft as fuck douche bag that tried to give me squat advice at my gym in my bag.

My presses have the same problem but reversed. Right arm/shoulder is weaker. But if I lock it out it counts!

No, no plans as of yet. Probably not good enough; don’t know where; got no car; don’t know a soul in real life who competes.
But I do want to, before I turn 23 (when the “Junior” class ends and the qualifying requirements shoot way up.) At some point between now and then I’d have to learn how the system works and possibly find some actual powerlifters to train with. (I don’t even know if my school has a team.)
Start asking around at your gym. Find the big guys and veteran gym "Yoda"s, ask them. Call/explore other gyms in your area. They’ve gotta be hiding somewhere!

You know it’s likely he was attempting to hit on you - Look at me, I’m smart and can help you. If you think you’re asymmetric, maybe try dumbbells?
Dumbbells sound good.
I don’t know why everybody jumps to the “hitting on me” conclusion. He did not look like the ‘hit on girls’ type – he looked like a dad.

As incredible as it is, at that age they’re still men. You’ve been in SAMA, how old do you think those guys are? You see people with bad form all the time, do you ever say anything to them? Do you occasionally see a hot one and think, hmm that maybe a great way so start talking to them. There you go.
I thought I felt asymmetric, I did a ‘test’ to see if I was, I’ll dig it out of my log for you. It turns out I wasn’t, but knowing helped a lot.

I second this. Remember, they are more comfortable in their own skins than younger guys are, and they’ve learned it never hurts to try. There is always hope, afterall. Can’t blame em, you ARE fabulous!
As a middle aged(41) man I can assure you it could very well have been an attempt to hit on you. Believe it or not middle aged men get hit on the gym too.
Of course he could have also just been trying to help.
