Am I missing something?
Does alcohol where youre from come with tits or something? (Or penis, if that’s your thing?)

If alcohol came with tits, there would be no marriage. Or sobriety.
EDIT: More to the point, I think the dude who posted that never got invited to partiez :'(.
haha yeah what the fuck do i know about anything how silly of me guys sorry

Has you heard of teh jokes?
While I don’t necessarily agree that alcohol is ALWAYS detrimental, I have seen plenty idiots screw up progress by overindulging. I don’t fault anyone for abstaining.
I don’t really understand the indignation though. You are a 20 year old who has apparently been on here for a month and does not have any logging/photos/anything to show some kind of credibility. So sorry but “what the fuck do [you] know about anything?” Fuck if I know, you’re basically anonymous here.
Well Im genuinely curious about the ‘distraction’ thing.
What is distracting about alcohol?
hmmm…this might be hard for me to explain…and obviously im speaking from my personal experience/life…but it just takes focus away from training…i agree partying is fun and can be a great release, i actually drank pretty hard every few weeks or so my freshman year of college (junior now) but just found that on a friday and saturday it’s easy to be less focused in the gym and look ahead more to what’s going to happen later in the night. and like i said partying/going out is fun, so for a lot of people it becomes another priority, and they make sacrifices in their other priorities to accommodate…maybe an example would be that if you’re drinking with friends or at a party odds are you’re going to miss a meal you need, or not get enough sleep that night, etc, which i think takes away from the idea of being totally immersed in your training…but that’s the key right there…im totally immersed in my training almost to the point where i dont have that much of a social life anymore, and that’s how i like it, and that’s what i think it will take to be able to compete at a high level someday. i just eat, sleep, and lift (and go to class). don’t do much else. i dunno like i said it’s a hard one to explain for me fellas.

I believe he’s referencing social pressure to drink. College kids don’t really do much else and it’s pretty easy to be branded antisocial if you decide not to go to the bars/always DDing or are drinking water in the corner at or avoiding parties.
Even though a hangover might kill the workout next day, there’s always the pressure to go out and hang out with friends anyway.
I did this most of the time last semester, and it is fairly awkward. I only actually drank at the bars once all semester, and only ended up drinking with friends maybe once per four times that I was asked. It can be kind of distracting when many of your friends are busting your balls because you don’t drink. And it’s pretty tough to surround yourself with college-age friends who don’t care for drinking and aren’t fucking clowns (only met low single digits in my 3.5 years at school).
Just the same, it’s really not that hard for me to say “no” when I need to anymore because I enjoy the feeling I get from working out way more than I enjoy a few hours of being shithammered. Working out is always fun, but drinking day-in and day-out stagnates.
EDIT: He ninja’d in a post while I was typing, but I think our responses go hand in hand. His view is obviously a bit more extreme than mine. I have no problem drinking once a week when I have an off day afterward.
^^ i agree with all of that for sure…and going out and not drinking while everyone else is is awkward as fuck and everyone thinks there is something wrong with you…i go to a small college though so most people know me and know why i don’t drink, and they respect my reason, but at the same time i think they find it weird because most of them never have or will be so passionate about anything to make sacrifices in their life to pursue it

And I cant really relate to either of you. I wasnt a big drinker in college and no one said a word to me when I said I didnt want a beer or a drink. And I definitely didnt stand in a corner drinking water lol. How would anyone know if you have rum and coke in your cup or just coke?
Partying/enjoying college and getting smashed can be mutually exclusive IMO.

[/quote]
I’d be interested to see the lifts/physique of someone that subscribes to this philosophy. Most of them are annorexic vegan oddballs. Like my forefathers before me I’ll stick with my mead, whiskey, and beer. Vikings were bad asses.
^^i subscribe to that philosophy and i do alright for myself haha

Be more secure in yourself. I have just as good of a night when I’m the DD as my drunk ass friends only I’m not paying for a ton of drinks and my penis is still functioning. Some of the best times are when you’re sober around drunk people.
^^ yeah ill second that ive had a lot of fun being the DD or being with drunk friends while im not drinking, bit it’s only fun if it’s just a small close group of us you know? i was talking more along the lines of being at a house party or something

So say the anonymous of T-Nation. Sorry but I see all sorts of internet keyboard warriors here coming and going each month claiming they’re going to be the next greatest thing or that they actually have results that show they work out (sadly neither is usually the case).
I actually went from the hard partier to the non partier DD. Friends at first pressured me but in the end did not care just wanted to hangout. Do what you want and what works for your life. A couple drinks here or there are fine. Drinking hard a lot is not only gonna hurt workouts its bad for your health. Ask your liver and brain
well i was telling one of the fellas above to look at my youtube channel because i don’t have anything on here so if you want to check that out im “jjlederach” …not claiming to be anything great but like i said i think i do alright. i understand your suspicion though most people on that post on forums seem to be worthless, but i joined T-Nation recently because it seemed like one of the better ones
oh and btw i know very little about how to get my profile in order or how this forum stuff works so you guys are going to have to excuse me on certain things
Well what I’m getting at is that why anyone would partake in such a black and white “I don’t drink” because it will kill my gains philosophy, should in my opinion, have a body that reflects their “dedication/obsession”. It starts with drinking and it ends up with some sort of neurotic disorder where you can’t miss a workout, you get anxious being around junk food, and you don’t go to parties because you’ll be afraid of temptations. Lifting should augment the life you have, not restrict it imo. Especially when you can absolutely succeed in this while still having a good time.
i agree with the first part…somebody who takes that stance should have a body/numbers that reflect their “dedication/obsession” …but where do i fall into it? you’re basically calling me crazy, and a while back said i was just an anonymous on here, and i refer you to my channel and have yet to hear anything about my credibility. i might not be a level 10 forum commando but through experience id say my opinion carries a certain degree of weight. not that it may be right for everyone.
