After 22-23, your body can’t handle that abuse anymore. At least mine can’t.

This is sooo true. I used to get shitfaced when I was in my early 20’s, sleep for 2-3 hours and then go make pizzas for 12 hours. Then go out again. These days if I go to a strip club and get wasted on a weeknight I’ll call out sick every time. Even if I only get in at 1 or 2 am. My hangovers last 2 days after a fun night these days (at age 33).

x3… I actually get hangovers now, and never used to. Although, I find if I eat something and drink 3 - 4 glasses of water before bed I usually feel alright… but not that good.
X4

It all changed in the mid twenties for me. “The hangovers hurt worse than they used to…”

Most of the time it’s just not worth it anymore. And what someone else said, it’s the lack of sleep more than anything else.

That’s why I start drinking at noon on a Friday. That way by 10 o’clock I’m sleepy, and by 12 a.m. I crash. Then I am up at 6 a.m. for my workout, off to work and drinking by twelve again. On the weekends, I just drink all the time. If it wasn’t for the fact that I would have the possibility of throwing up during a workout, I would drink during too. Call me an alcoholic, but what is wrong with that?

Hilarious, you and I would have gotten along just fine many moons ago.

I will agree, when in party mode, that starting early is the key to having any hope of getting a decent amount of sleep.

Alcohol inhibits protein synthesis and encourages fat storage. I rarely drink, unlike last semester downing 5 rum and cokes in a night and wondering why my training never really progressed. Not to mention I had to cardio like a mofo.
I really feel like that idea is over-exaggerated. Lately I have made the best strength and size gains of my life while allowing myself to have a few beers once or twice a week.

Its all about even moderation.

Getting drunk is what I do, we come from a long line of alcoholics, on both sides of the family, the only thing that keeps me from drinking is training and having some goals. I am SURE that it affects my performance (in more ways than one), but with solid training protocols, good diet, and plenty of protein I have been able to put on 20lbs of quality muscle in the last 2 1/2 years.

The thing is not letting it get in the way of your goals. if you’re hungover, go to the gym. if your freinds are in the mood to party, party your ass off. life is to short to miss out on a good time. Train every chance you can, and get laid every chance you can = recipe for a good life.

my 2 cents.

I’ll drink to that

Training while drunk has been similar to training sober for me, although I’ve never really got badly wasted.

But if I get a bad hangover, I really feel like quitting training altogether. I guess it screws with my T levels that way.

I suppose the upside when drunk would be the heightened pain tolerance although this does not seem like a big deal when it comes to lifting. It helps with stretching however.

Alcohol is what inspires me to get up in the afternoon.

It doesn’t seem to hinder my physique too much, but it seriously fucks with my strength, which long term of course will fuck with the former.

I haven’t seen much discussion about alcohol on here,

Where have you been?

x2. lol

yes, i regularly consume more than reasonable amounts of alcohol on the weekend. i do this because it generally leads to sex with random girls of a consenting age.
Damn, one more month and I have to start worrying about consent.

You can’t be drinking that much if you can train near optimum the following day.

Hi Guys

I’ve registered in here just to post in this thread.

First of all I’m 23 from Portugal my actual name is Joao Pedro, actually I’m really skinny and I’ve been training and eating clean like a maniac.

I know how hard it is in your mind to “cheat” specially when you workout so hard, but this sentence says it all:

“life is to short to miss out on a good time. Train every chance you can, and get laid every chance you can = recipe for a good life.”

So fucking true. I was a little bit confused if I should go to a party friday night or not but I’ve made my point. Drunk I shall be then!

PS: Good for me that in my gym no one really “stops” living, we drink, we eat, we workout a lot

Cheers to you all

The shit fucks me up pretty bad normally when I drink. I’m sure the volume that I drink when I drink plays a huge part in the decreased performance but a few things help me recovery faster. I take a shake before I drink to slow digestion. If I am aware enough after a night of drinking I’ll slam as much water as I can and something with potassium and sodium in it i.e.) gatorade. Typically if I do these, get some decent sleep, and eat a solid meal or two before I lift i’ll be okay.

Depends how drunk I get. If it’s really bad I won’t have any energy for my workout. I can’t remember now, but if I get drunk 3 or 4 nights in a row, I don’t think it’s any worse than just getting drunk 1 night, well maybe a little worse.

Put it this way, about 5 months ago I was getting drunk around 4-6 nights a week, and I still consistently went to the gym, but I didn’t progress at all, and in some lifts I got weaker; over a period of about 3 months. It was also very expensive, lol. Sure, I had some good times, but my lifts would be A LOT better right now if I hadn’t done that.
