Alcohol and Gym Performance

Fucking lightweights 3-8 beers. If you think a few beers is going to fuck up your workout, then maybe you’re a pussy and the fact that you think 3-8 beers should get you drunk let’s me know you in the gym equals a fucking joke. Do you also not workout when you’re sore, this might let you know you’re an upside down diamond in the gym. My partners (which happened to be my lifting partners, drinking partners, and sometimes life partners), if they heard me say some gay shit like a few beers fucked up my workout, or my workout was sucking because I drank some fucking weak ass beer, they’d collectively kick my ass and ban me from the circle jerk later that night.

nothing like pregaming and deadlifting before the bar…shotgun a beer if you fail

If I get drunk, it’s fucking me up for a full day, sometimes more. I don’t really bodybuild per se, but I know if I’m working the pads or the bag, I’m normally a mess… my timing is off, my hands are slow, my legs feel like lead…

After 22-23, your body can’t handle that abuse anymore. At least mine can’t.

Haha, don’t worry. When I drink, I drink straight vodka usually.

I’ve gotten so drunk the night before that I have gotten under the bar for a chest work out the next day, unracked the warm up weight and literally not been able to figure out how to get the bar down. Has anyone ever experienced this? Hungover to the point you forget simple motor functions? This also led to me breaking my squash racket one game…

That story aside, I find alcohol is way more debilitating if I drink the day of a heavy workout than if I workout hungover. I can hit new maxes with a hangover but if I have a hangover the day after a max I can barely even move. Every muscle is absolutely crushed by the day/night before.
Also drinking makes me lose weight… alcohol is metabolized, and I’m dehydrated. Go metabolism.

Plus when you wake up one morning: fully clothed, shoes on, on the kitchen floor, head actually in a sideways garbage can, covered in vomit, with your wife standing over you holding a roll of paper towels and a bottle of cleaner because you fucking puked all over her car in the middle of downtown last night and begged to sleep in the front yard because you couldn’t walk to the door, and she can’t carry you because you are too heavy; you don’t really find joy in getting shitfaced anymore.

Sounds like a story to tell while getting shit faced.

I tried ghb the other night. Said to be the bodybuilders drug. Said to improve HGH and such but you can only take in small doses. 2.5mg of this stuff is the equivelent to being wasted on alcohol.

Oh and it does not affect performance.

Alcohol inhibits protein synthesis and encourages fat storage. I rarely drink, unlike last semester downing 5 rum and cokes in a night and wondering why my training never really progressed. Not to mention I had to cardio like a mofo.

I was really trashed one night and broke my leg. That had an effect on my training.

WOw seems a lot of people dont really see an effect on performance, like a few people I know, the lucky swines.

One of my theories was that because Im taking creatine, the alcohol will dehydrate me and my body will use water from my muscles to function better, thereby removing the improvement creatine gives me until its been a few days and the stores are replenished.

This is sooo true. I used to get shitfaced when I was in my early 20’s, sleep for 2-3 hours and then go make pizzas for 12 hours. Then go out again. These days if I go to a strip club and get wasted on a weeknight I’ll call out sick every time. Even if I only get in at 1 or 2 am. My hangovers last 2 days after a fun night these days (at age 33).

x3… I actually get hangovers now, and never used to. Although, I find if I eat something and drink 3 - 4 glasses of water before bed I usually feel alright… but not that good.

I dont touch booze during the week but on the weekends I drink, Sometimes I get wasted sometimes casuall.I think it effects me in the sense that I fatigue faster after a hard weekend plus i feel like I have to load back up on creatine and beta alanine.

Drinking is fun at the time but it is a viciouse cycle when it comes to making progress in the gym.

With all that being said, I have had some pretty badass saturday morning workouts after rough fridays.

I am 23 so I’ll probably keep doing it, if I’m real hungover the next day I’ll take the day off usually only takes 3/4 of a day to a full day for me to recover then its back to busting my ass.
