After Back Surgery

L4 and L5 fused together, 2 titanium plates running down either side of lower spine held in place with 4 screws. Surgery 14 months ago.

I’m trying to get back in shape, at age 48 it isn’t easy, plus the back thing. I’m eating right, working a Nordic Trac on intervals, and lifting dumbbells. Doing crunches and sit ups.

I’m looking at a machine I can do pull ups and chin ups on. I probably have maxxed out what I can do with the weights I’m supposed to lift. What do you guys think? The only thing the surgeon has told me is to be sure that my shoulders and hips are square when lifting anything. Are the pull ups out of bounds?

Thanks!

Talk to your doctor or physical therapist about doing more core and single leg work. I didn’t have surgery, but have had back issues in the past. Incorporating these in my workout really seems to help.
